Oil Filter Removal

Oil Filter Removal

Postby FLUXEMAG » Mon Feb 13, 2006 9:18 am

Can anyone tell me how to get the oil filter out without dumping the .5L of oil down into the engine compartment. I change it from the top looking down at the manifold. I get my arm down there and try to lift it up around the manifold after I unscrew it. Does anyone do it from below? I have a Exxon valdez slick built up on the bottom of the car after 4 changes and it drives me nuts, luckily Mobil1 doesn't burn and smell.

What if we drain the oil before we change the filter?

ok to help you out, I really don't know. when I change my oil filter on my avalon and my girl's Es300, the oil ALWAYS spill, and even when the oil is drained from the bottom first, so I raelyl don't know ho wto avoid have the oil not drip all over the engine compartment.

But you gotta love the smell of burnt motor oiol on the exhaust header after you've started your car eh?

The car already has a funnel under the oil filter. Just loosen the filter and let it drain out into a pan. When you take the filter off, oil will not spill all over the exhaust manifold.

Oil...which one and when?

Postby gnegroni » Thu May 25, 2006 6:55 am

Since you guys are talking on oil change...what Oil do you use on yours? I was planning on changing to synthetic on my 2nd oil change, but Aotoyota says he did it at 1000 miles (not recommended after 3000 miles). My dealer recommended not doing it on the first oil change for some reason, but I'm ready to do it now.

I was thinking of using Mobil 1 btw...Anybody care to comment?
