Too bad the wiring sequence is different for a Gen1 and Gen2; I have a Gen1's Haynes manual I'd let you borrow (If Valley Glen = Section of North Hollywood/Van Nuys, CA), but then again I noticed a lot of "Typical Toyota ____ wiring" pages.

'my06toy' e-mailed me some diagrams for the gen 2, i'm still looking over them and am not finding anything related to the problem (non-functioning) display button. I dont think then gen 1's have one (?)

Theres a brown wire that leads straight to ground... no connection to any speakers or any other peripherals...i wonder if grounding that will work.. I miss my functions

Wohoo!!!!!

dvdchris, you are gonna be happy unless you already found out.

Alright, so I went back into my car dash today, and took of the green wire from ground. (from the connector with three wires in it - green, yellow, blue)

I looked at the wiring diagram and saw that the yellow button should be grounded, so thats what I did. And guess what , the display button works again!!!!!!!!

Also, I found (about two months ago, I just forgot to post) out that my antenna wire was not grounded when Circuit City, installed my head unit. The dude who installed my rear speakers found this and reconnected it. My radio work perfectly!!!

Good luck!

DUDE this news almost brought tears to my eyes. I will try this out this week and let u guys know what happens. I'll post if I have problems (hopefully I wont)

KG: Which is the antenna wire to ground? I have FM reception but its not too good but I have no AM whatsoever.

Forgot to mention that the buttons light up now when I turn on my headlights!!

It is kind of hard to say. I have a lot of wires that have been cut because of the amp install. I don't really know to be honest.

But I did notice a blue wire (it said antenna on it) in (from what I saw yesterday) the connector that contains the speaker wires. The connector that connects to the back of the HU then splits to power wires and mostly speaker wires. It seems like it is just looped back to the same connector, so I don't know what role, if any, that plays. I just remember him saying that the antenna or something having to do with the antenna was not grounded. I have both AM and FM reception. Sorry, I don't think that really helped you.

I also noticed a orange wire with the word "Illumination" printed on it that is cut and does not go to anything. I am guessing this was for the OEM HU lighting.

Yeah that was a bit of a tough read.. Anyways. It'd be safe to say that the wire you grounded [for the antenna] was blue? I myself didnt ground any wires for an antenna. I just plug in the black antenna wire to the back of my HU and noticed the static-y FM reception and NO AM whatsoever. You have your black wire antenna plugged in? If so, then I have ANOTHER wire to ground besides the display one.

So in a nut shell, correct me if I'm ground:

YELLOW WIRE TO GROUND: Display Function

BLUE WIRE: (boosts or fixes radio reception?)

Right, I have the antenna directly plugged into my Pionner HU. It had always been connected, but I had no reception.

The blue wire is comiing out of the connector from one pin and then going back into the pin next to it. Maybe one of those pins is connected to ground?
I didn't really check for that, so I don't know but, that is what I am thinking. I will have to check this weekend.

Way ahead of you Mike. I installed the PAC SWI-PS this weekend, so now I have the stereo controls working!

I forgot to mention, that I took a closer look at the blue wire, and found that it says Antenna Power on it. So, now I am puzzled as to what the guy did to get my radio to work again.

I always thought the "Antenna Power" was for cars that had an antenna goes up and down when the radio goes on and off... (ie not CD, etc.)...

And since we don't have a motorized antenna...

Really? Hmm.... I guess that is why it doesn't go anywhere, and is just looped into the pin next to where it is coming from.
