That may be your problem. Because JoeB, greg, and I have two GM sensors when we were using them on our cars. I'm willing to bet on it that thats your problem with the CEL.

So your using two GM sensor straight up? If it works Id sure love to try it. Because Im not looking to run 1000 hp or anything. I jsut want my 3.5/4psi boost for daily extra push. But this CEL light is taking the heck out of it. My car is as stock as can be.

I still have them on the motor however they're now longer being used now that I'm running with a standalone system. These GM sensors were working fine with 13psi on the TRD s/c and 93 octane.

Cool Im putting my all power into you. Im going to order 2 of them and replace both sensors with them. Im going to have this done at a legit supra shop so Im pretty sure they know the wires I hope. But in case they dont.. Which wire color do I tap? Theres only two wires right?

man work has been so crazy this month that i havent been able to even touch my cars motor. Ill undo the wire tap to have 2 readings once more and since I bought an OEM sensor just to compare against the GM, Ill have each different sensor hooked up. Thanks for the heads up rizal. If all goes well with the GM, ill return the OEM and order me another.

Keep us updated please. I wanna know if it'll work or not. I was getting my hopes up until you said you were having problems. If it can be corrected, I'll order me a pair as well

It should work cause it worked on three of our cars that were heavily modified.

I thought your car was being filmed for TV today. What is it doing at a Supra shop? Shouldn't it be at a Solara shop?

Knock Sensor issues

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Mon Jan 30, 2006 10:33 am

I already posted some KS comments in another thread, but for a quick summary of my experience:

1. The original knock sensors seem to blow a lot easier than OEM replacement ones. Replacements must be built tougher because under the same conditions they don't usually break unless the knock is severe.

2. The KS are there for a reason, which is to allow maximum advance for better power, but to sense knock and let the ECU know to retard the timing to maximize power and at the same time prevent engine damaging and power robbing knock.

3. Some people advocate using a different sensor or relocating sensors but that will prevent the system from working properly, and may be very risky on S/C cars. There is some discussion about the S/C itself causing "noise" that is not knock "noise that causes unnecessary power robbing timing retard and that it may be prevented by running both sensor inputs off one non-effected sensor, but I am sceptical as my car does not seem to be affected. I currently run the KS system as stock.

4. Even with full ECU timing retard, many people have broken their pistons with too much boost, not enough fuel, too high compression or heat, or some combination. If you have to go over 6 psi boost you had better lower compression, and have proper fuel delivery.

I got mine installed in today finnally. I did it myself since I didnt want to blow 100 bucks on labor. 5 HOURS OF PAIN!!!!!!! Cuts all over my hand and install wasnt as bad as I thought it to be. Removing a supercharger is allot easier then removing the stock manifold. THe only issue I had was I didnt know collant runs though the Manifold spacer where fuels and air mix. I accidently got some running into one of the ports to the cam ports. But after install was done and drove it around. Im very pleased that the CEL did not come back on. GM sensor did its job. Thanks everyone for helping me on this. You guys are great. I got two pics Ill post later of the mess my engine looked like. It looked like I blew my motor from running nitrous. Everyting was everywhere.

^ so the GM knock sensor adapter from ATS fit w/o rethreading? I still havent taken mine apart. I was successful in relocating it the same way a guy on TN did for his camry. If its basically plug and play, I may consider this to clean up the engine bay a bigt.

The adaptor with that kit I brought fit perfectly into the block. The GM sensor didnt fit all the way into the adaptor which was ok and perfectly what it was suppose to do I thnk. Just tighten it til you cant anymore and consider it done. I screwed the GM sensor onto the adaptor before I screw the adaptor into the block. then i just tap the line and clean up and was bamm done.

Hahah See it looked like my car blew up from nitrous

what about that radiator hose? did you have to replace any parts at all? I bought me an extra wire harness since lots of people did the relocation and it worked well. Did you jsut tap into your stock harness or cut and solder the wire on there? BEfore going to the track, I wanna have my car running with all the safety insurance I can. Relocation works good, but I'd like to have it in the stock location for that extra safety net.
