Worst Gas milage I got driving my Gen 2 Solara (4 banger)

It was cold out, I was driving it gentle. I think it was starting the car in the cold that contributed to the poor gas milage. There was little traffic.

Wow, I have never gotten anything NEARLY that low and I have a V6. Lowest I have gotten was something like 22mpg.

I was really surprised when I checked the meters, that is the gas milage of a typical midsize SUV.

I started the car and waited for two minutes before driving, does that help with getting good gas milage driving in the cold at all?

Are you normally a city driver? Do you always get that AVG MPG on the Meter? I calculate my gas mileage by hand and it's around 18-19. The Meter is usually higher by 1 or 2 miles. I also have a 4 cylinder and have never gotten anything higher than 20 MPG. During winter, when you idle to warm up your car, it burns more gasoline I believe.

Wow- that seems really low for a 4 cyl. My V6 is getting mid 20's in the city, and sometimes 30+ on the freeway.

I am normally a city driver but I always get 27-29 mpg.

I resetted the gauges two weeks ago when I filled it up at the pump.

maybe your parking brake is a little engaged. or a flat tire. Cold weather will leave you with lower tire pressure and lower mileage, but not to that degree.

If you have a V6 and you do alot of stop and go and accelerate when you go, you will almost certainly get below 22 average. I've gotten below 20 all the time driving like that with almost no highway. Accelerating gets miles/gallon numbers below 10 and stopped at light gives you 0. Driving in the city below 40mph gives you lower than 22mpg also.

Hey Slingshot, I don't calcuate by hand, I just use the guage. This past fill up was the lowest I ever had, 22.9. I usually get 28 to 29.

I drive mainly in the city, with some mixed highway, but the highway driving is all stop and go rush hour crap. I have a V6 and was pleasantly surprised by how little I had to fill it up!

Are you sure you aren't driving like a grandma and hardly accelerating ever to get those numbers? The only way I get 28-29 with my V6 is steady driving on a highway at highway speeds. Maybe Toyota stuck one of those new hybrids under your hood without you knowing it. Sure sounds like it and that would make your numbers right on.

Are your calculating manually to get those miles? Even people with V6 engines are getting better mileage than me. I'm sure my hand brake is not up and my tires are properly inflated to 29 PSI. I believe I have the worst mileage here.

Slingshot, I promise I don't drive like a grandma. I don't drive like a maniac either, but I step on the gas pretty hard. I also use 87 octane.

If you drive like a grandma in Orlando, you don't get anywhere! :-)
