2006 SLE & Power Windows

Postby theprodigy79 » Sun Jan 15, 2006 5:06 pm

The thought process behind it is that the drivers side window gets the majority of the usage; and of that usage, much of it involves multi-tasking by the driver (such as prepping for tolls, etc...), so the auto on the drivers side takes a bit of burden off the driver.

Well, I tried Prodigy's suggestion and it didn't work, no auto up. I alos don't have any kind of tab preventing me from using it (not that I can see).

I guess I'll have to take the car to the dealer to find out. I'll probably find out that it's some stupid Florida law or something. I bought a Mac (computer) a couple of years ago, and wanted to get the Apple Care warranty...can't buy it in Florida because of some stupid law meant to protect old people from getting swindled. I suppoose that the good 'ole boys in Talahassee might be worried that the old people will be confused if their windows went up automatically and crash aimlessly into things....oh, wait, they do that already...dammit!

Sorry to hear it didn't work bro... I had to reset mine a couple times after disconnecting the battery, and that's the process that has to be used... Hopefully the dealer will straighten it out.

I'm sure they will, unless it is some sort of weird Florda law, like I mentioned.

Thank you for your help.

I may be wrong here, but I thought the convertibles didn't have the auto up feature, just down. I know mine doesn't. I will dig out my manual tomorrow and look it up.
When in doubt gas it out, brakes just slow you down.

Ah, I'm blind.. I didn't see it was a convertible, that may have something to do with it.

Go to Toyota website and download eBrochure, or check owners manual...Auto UP/DOWN not available on convertible...not sure why, but that's what it appears to state. Would thnk with top down, auto up is less of a concern than with coupe.

i thought "DOWN" was probably functional, but eBrochure lumps the functions together. Thanks for clarification.

Joe, what section did you find that in? Is there a different manal for the coupe and convertible? I swear I didn't see it in ym book, that's why I ask.

I can live with it, i was just curious about the whole thing.

Thank you ALL for your help and information. It's been great.

Page 25, top left side of page
Under COUPE it states how to operate for UP and DOWN
Under CONVERTIBLE it states how to operate for DOWN
Next paragraph COUPE ONLY saftey feature on automatic UP feature

Admitedly they could have made it a lot clearer so that you don't have to make an intrepretation.

I purchased my 06 convertible in November. The car was also built in November. While it does have "auto down", it does not have "auto up". My owner's manual states that the "auto up" feature is only on the coupe.

OK... now I'm officially ticked.

I just went to lunch with a coworker in her new Scion. Auto UP/DOWN on BOTH windows - with auto UP/DOWN control of the passenger window from the drivers side too.

WTH is that?

Are we drop top owners too stupid to keep things out of the window while they are going up?

So I did an experiment. While the window was going up I stuck my hand in the way.

OMG! The window cut my hand right off!

Not really. The window rolled up with my hand in the way and when my hand hit the top and the window hit my hand it rolled right back down again. It didn't even leave a mark.

So now I would love to figure out how to retrofit whatever module is necessary to give me auto UP/DOWN windows in my 06 Solara drop top.

Okay - I just went out and tried the "reprogramming" thing - no luck. :( I still only get Auto-down only.

I wish the convertible had auto ALL up & down - seems they all go down okay but they take forever to roll back up!

Did I mention that I was really lazy?

That is not lazy! That is actually safer than sitting there holding the button to roll all four windows up while you drive down the Long Beach freeway.
