NEED HELP! HID BULB MIGHT BE BROKEN

Postby someazn » Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:42 pm

Well, i just installed my HIDS, and it worked fine. I think I'll replace the defective bulb in a month or two.

MikeATL, I completely agree with you, light output is just ridculous for our types. I think we need to adjust the headlights so that it aims higher, cuz right now, my headlights aim towards the ground. I'll try to get a picture up by tomororw.

You have a cracked insulator. It does not matter. That one example had a large piece of ceramic missing. Yours seems to just be simply cracked. Life of your bulb will not be affected, so save your money and forget about it. In fact, for a while certain vendors were intentionally cracking that insulator so the kits could be imported as "defective". Of course, this crack doesn't even matter.

Don't raise your lights too much, you will blind oncoming traffic, which is bad. Technically you shouldnt have to raise or lower them at all.

I want to see your pics. Make sure you take them with the fog lights off.

I think there is potential there. When I drive down the street the sidewalk is bright as hell, its just the road directly in front of me that is lacking...

Here's the pic i promised...noticed a lot of light wasted near and in front of the bumper area. Definetley need to reaim to get more light output. Good light output on sides, but poor light output out ahead. btw, they are mccullochs 5300k.

My OEM halogens have a WAY higher and sharper cutoff than that, you may seriously want to get them aimed PROPERLY

yea, i just reaimed my headlights and wowy what a difference. didnt get a chance to take pictures, camera ran out of batteries, but will get pics up tomorrow. I am about 80% satisfied right now, light output could be better, but at least its a whole lot better than before. =)

However, I am worried that my hid bulbs might be touching the housing and projectors...might melt them...not too sure. Is that even possible if I raise it too high? Right now, it does not blind incoming traffic, so im good to go.

Nope, won't touch the housing or projector.

Plus HIDs aren't as hot as halogens. (I think...)
