Tuning question...

Tuning question...

Postby scdsolara619 » Wed Nov 30, 2005 1:57 pm

I'll be getting Jim's fuel system upgrade kit, 5.5psi pulley etc. I have the SAFC and I have access to a handheld scantool that we use at a Ford dealership that I work at. Lets me monitor all generic PIDs: ECT, FUELSYS1, FUELSYS2, SHORTFT1, LONGTFT1, LOAD, ETC.

Who has done their own tuning using the SAFC and I would like to know more about it. I've read the URD's U-Tune Booklet and I believe that I understand the basics but I doesn't go into detail. I could have someone else tune it but I would like to understand how it is done I to be able do do it myself. Can the car be tuned using only the scan tool and SAFC? Maybe not and that's what I'm wondering? I see a lot of you guys are buying the URD Perfomance calibrator, Wideband o2 etc. Do I need to get all that to be able to tune the car as well? Thanks for any input.

P.S. Sorry for the long post.

sorry i dont know much of 1mz tuning but i know for basic tuning tool you need a wideband O2 sensor for sure. I was thinking that maybe you can find someone has similar set up as you to show you what is their tuning entries.

With that setup you will only be able to tune your closed loop area effectively. You can only tune your open loop/WOT area with a wideband O2 meter or you can have a dyno shop do it.

I almost purchased an SAFCII but ended up getting the Split Second FTC so I really can't help you there. Although from what I read it's much easier and intuitive to do than the FTC.

Good Luck
