I thought your MR2 was turbo'd?

Boost is extra air forced into your engine, hence turbo and supercharging are dubbed "forced induction" and nicknamed boosting. 4 psi means 4 pounds per square inch. It is the extra amount of force on the air going into your engine, the higher the pressure of the air, the harder it's forced into the engine, the more air forced in, the more explosions taking place, the more power. So in theory, the higher the boost, the higher your horsepower. Just don't leane out the air/fuel mixture, more air means more power, but also more danger of blowing your engine, but that's all going to be controlled with OBDII tuning. The Solara, being stock is safe to only run 4 psi, and you can slide by with something like 5.5 or 6 psi. anything higher and you're risking damaged pistons and rods. Without a rebuild, supercharging is very helpful, but only by so much. After a rebuild you can run around 13 psi. Cars like Supras are known to support insane amounts of boost on their stock engine blocks with a turbo setup, and on a rebuild, I've seen 59 lbs of boost run on a Supra.

Not being boosted myself, or even having a car right now, some of that is either wrong or won't make sense, but I'm pretty sure I got it covered.

I could've sworn your MR2 was turbo, maybe that was someone else.

Maintenance is not really that much of an issue... other than the fact that tuneups will take longer and you have to pay much more attention to your fluids and other sensitive areas.
