Why did you buy Gen2 Solara?

I bought my solara due to its spacious interior and the comfort I felt driving it. In the driver seat the telescoptic steering and tilt wheel allowed me to get completly comfortable behind the wheel. The mirrors are perfect sized allowing great visibilty to the blind spots. Also the V-6 engine has enough power to put you in the seat when you want to get up and go. The icing on the cake was the 30 MPG out of a V-6, and the added bonus of my insurance being very cheap.

I wanted another convertible. VW doesn't make a Cabrio anymore and I was intent on getting something more dependable than my Cabrio was. I'd had great experiences with two Honda Accords from that respect, and I hoped that a Toyota might be made to a similar standard. I was willing to sacrifice excitement for dependability, but so far I'm very pleased with my Solara.

The lease on my Acura CL was up. Acura no longer made the CL (two door). I'm not into 4 doors, trucks, or SUVs. Looked around, and found, for the money, it's hard to beat the Solara. There are not too many nice (read not cheap looking) mid-size two doors out there anymore. While I did not actually look for a convertible, the dealer had a car coming in from the zone (GST), that had everything I wanted on it and it happened to be a convertible. I've owned a convertible in the past, and thought they are something different, so I got it. So far I'm pleased with it. I'm sorry that when my lease is up, there will not be any more Solaras.

You get 30 mpg stewy? I only get 22 mph on my v6! something must be terribly wrong..

Yes it is true I am getting 30 mpg. (1) I always put 89 octane in. (2) I work 25 miles form work, and 23 miles of it is freeway. (3) This is my daily driver and I am the only one in the car. (4) My car is spotless so thier is no extra weight rolling around the interior. (5) As of today my read out for my average mpg is 29.8 (06 Solara SE V6)

I was just looking around at the dealership one day, not even looking to buy a car. Saw my Solara, fell in love and walked out with it that day.

I can get 30MPG on the highway, but only if I drive, like 60 MPH, when I go 70-80, like normal, I only get 26ish.

Nef...I don't think this is an bad post to dig up. Afterall, it has to do with buy a new Solara, and we have lots of new members. Be glad someone used SEARCH! LOL

Since I never responded originally, I'll go:

I got mine because it was the only convertible I liked and could fit all my stuff in that was under $40K - and I liked the looks of the lines on the car.

the styling of the solara was the main selling point for me. .it looks like a luxery car without the luxery price tag. I think the lunar mist added to the fact it looks pretty classy. THe interior is elegant but simple enough 2 control..plus, the silver trim matched the lunar mist..

there is a lot of space in the solara as far as seating and it's great on gas..Toyota is a great brand and for the price you can't beat it..

It is a coupe, "sporty". (But practical as a Camry sedan...)

It is a very sharp looking car. (Luxury for a modest price.)

The ride is good and the interior is very good.

It is not a "run of the mill" looking car... (some "exclusivity" in number)

Safety, Quality, Reliability, Value...

It is a Toyota.

After 12 years of driving Miata's and loving them, I needed a convertable that would carry two sets of golf clubs with the top down.

That left me with:
Mustang (hated the interior)
Sebring ( cheap and troublesome)
Solara ( Great looks, far handling, no problems)
