Question: if one of the HID bulb broke/fried/whatever you want to call it, then i can just buy a new bulb (regardless of brand) and plug it in?

Well, it depends on what you mean by "bulb". If you're talking about a common bulb like a 9006/H4/commonly available socket, it looks tacky as hell to remove the adapter and have a 6000k HID light next to a 4000K PIAA (for example). On the other hand, I think that HID sockets might vary from one manufacturer to the other, so I think that a McCullough won't fit a Phillips, but that's just a wild guess since I don't even know what an HID bulb looks like (but from what I hear it's not like any other bulb).
