Postby TRD73 » Sun Oct 23, 2005 6:55 pm

Has anyone ever bought a fake TRD bodykit off of Ebay?? it's soo hard to find a real one these days. I own a gen. 1 solara i saw a fake one on Ebay and was interested in purchasing it. I wanted know how difficult it is to install and if there were any problems.

thanx in advance.

not sure on fitting, but they are made out of fiberglass, whereas the real trd kits are polyurethane.

Get the replica if you don't mind missing the middle rear piece..forget what you've heard in terms of reliability. I've seen both, fiberglass wont just crack as many have said, Ive seen some kits with heavy scratches w/o any cracks, while I've had a authentic trd kit crack on me..

Don't do it, you're asking for lots of headache. They may tell you all they want that it's bolt on, but it's not. I personally know this because a local friend purchased one from ebay and paid 300 plus 150 for shipping and it was not bolt on trust me. The bodyshop couldn't even put it on without having to do some custom fabrication work.

So, they ended up putting it back on ebay and lost money on the kit. I'm just telling you from personal experience. They would have purchased a real Gen 1.5 TRD kit and modified the front valences, but I didn't have any for sale at the time.

Don't settle on this honestly. But if you do, look to spend more money then you intend. Most of the TRD kits come painted to match your color code and would be easy bolt on process for you.

Just my 2cents.

There are members on this forum that purchased the replica kit w/o any issues as well. ALSO, there have been members that purchased REAL trd kits DIRECT from Molly only to find out the sides were different lengths..so no company is perfect. SO ONCE again...

Molly took back the side skirts and gave matching lengths on that one... not much of a headache of modifying or custom fabrication... it was a simple ship back and receive new ones... anyway it wasnt me... whoever it was, they ended up happy with the real TRD kit

Yeah well Molly aint around to fix that problem anymore, so if you do somehow get a new kit from some dealership, you're assed out.
