GuavazoEX - smash rear windshield

Postby michaels artic frost » Mon Oct 10, 2005 5:55 am

GuavazoEX,

Sorry to hear of this misfortune, but as ClassySolaraGuy pointed out...shouldn't your insurance cover this? Keep us posted and good luck.

The deductible is the big question. If he has a $1000 deductible, there's no sense to involve the insurance company; you only get black points on your policy.

I would suggest going with aftermarket glass if you can find it. Windshields are easy to find, and about 3-5 times cheaper than Toyota original glass, but the side windows may be harder to find.

Sorry to hear about that bro... as the others stated, I hope you have a low deductable... Unfortunately the rear windshields on the Gen 2 ARE NOT CHEAP (as rear windshields seldom are)... Along with the heat elements wired in, it also has the radio antenna embedded in it... My guess would be around $600, plus whatever tint you had on there (if you were to replace it). Good luck on that bro, let us know how everything goes.

Dood I feel your pain. Some asshole threw the Club antitheft device in my RSX one day. Man, all I can say is a blowtorch and needle nosepliers really changed that guys attitude after I tied him to a tree in the park... :evilbat:

Anyways, Call around all junkyards Nationwide... yes all the way to Florida... and see if they have any crashed Solaras with intact windows. Then they will take out the window and charge about 200 wholesale - 500 retail shipped (for the big rear window) (half price for the little ones) ... and send it to you! then Pay about 200 at a local place to get the window installed... OR you can do it yourself.

If you want to do it yourself quick and ez, buy that window sealant removal tool that looks like a pizza cutter and take out your old crap... then buy some good black ATV that can be used for windows, stick the window in carefully then ATV the sides! you can apply the ATV using a spatula and a papertower to wipe up the goo...if you really take your time it should look like ok... you know?

Wow, this is a bummer. It could be the kids , and then again maybe not. I'm not sure how many neighbors you have around you but a proactive door to door discussion with your neighbors may be helpful.

Accusations never do any good in this case. Go around under the guise of warning your neighbors about someone breaking windows. Say it may be a vandal or just an accident, but you were looking out for everyone by mentioning it. Odds are the kid's parents never knew about the window. They may approach you if they learn the truth and offer to pay the deductable. (One chance in ten thousand)

It's a long shot, but you get the word out, neighbors know to watch the windows, and you make the offending kids nervous that their parents may find out. They may think twice about their next street baseball game.
