You need a gasket b/w the two flanges.

Having a squishy compound (gasket) ensures there will be no exhaust leak.

The OE gasket is a crush type that sets after tightening. It's not supposed to be reusable. However, you can use RTV copper sealant on both sides of the OE gasket to get it to reseal. (No problems.) It's a mess but it works just fine. Now is also a good time to replace those bolts with stainless steel ones from the hardware store. You'll thank me later should you ever need to remove it.

(BTW) Dang good lookin' ride there!

Are there any other mufflers other than the TRD muffler available for around or near the TRD's $400 retail price? I'm thinking about going for an hks, greddy, or something but i have a feeling since the trd muffler is designed for the solara, the universal ones might suck.

I haven't seen any other mufflers yet. I just recorded my TRD exhaust on video. (Combined with the induction noise from my Injen Intake, the sound is great.)

As for the muffler's design, the fit is great. The tip is perfect for those with an SE sport. It exits at the correct length instead of the factory tip being set back 3". The width of the tip fills the opening of the body kit. Exposing the TRD logo on the top of the tip.

You can go with a universal, but a word of caution. The TRD tip is a resonator style. Many universals have straight tips with no acoustic packing. (The TRD tip has perforated holes in the pipe and glass wool packed inside.) What this does is eliminate the air rush sound on WOT acceleration. This is not a pretty sound. I liken it to a vacuum cleaner in reverse.

If I can get this DVD video edited and converted to an MPEG, I'll post it up. The wife is going to bring home Adobe Premier from her work so I can get this done.

Is your original missing. It should be just a ring type gasket that fits in a recess in the flange face.

If it's completely missing, you can use all RTV sealant but it will take a lot to fill the area of the flange where the original gasket went.

The dealer should be able to get you another one. Probably not a stocking item though.

.... unfortunately, we are seeking the sound and possible power increase that only a V8 with hefty cubes and a roller cam will give ... my '01 LS1 RamAir, which has now become my 'Lara SLE (!), had a marvelous "droan" at ~65mph .... now that is orgasmic .... mega orgasmic ....

I for one will save my muffler dinero and upgrade to voice Nav and cam for backup ....

Of course, I dream't about dropping in an LS1 with rear drive and 6sp ... that would REALLY make the 'Lara a great ride ... but, it would take Lotto winnings to do... :>))

I love my 'Lara .... loved my RamAir ... each is different and for different purposes ... people would drool and say nice things when the Black Bird would rumble by .... don't try to make one the other .... time and money disappear if you try ....
