Some warranty work items

Just took my Solara in for 2 items that have been bugging me. Anyone else have these problems?

1) Folding Seat Locking Mechanism: The lock sometimes doesnt unlock, even if its in the unlocked position. The tech was able to unlock it about 50% of the time, but they had no issues replacing it except that it had to be ordered and I had to go back.

2) Sunroof built-in wind defector vibrations. This has been a major issue since I bought the car. At any speed over 45mph, the metal wind deflector will start vibrating. I can even feel the vibrations in the steering wheel. If i hold the bar down, the vibration stop and its smooth.

I called over to my dealer about 6 months ago, and whoever I talked to that time said that he was aware of the problem (quote: "Sounds like a helicopter") and there was nothing that could be done. Nevertheless, I still mentioned it this time and was told that it might be an engineering issue, but I said: Do all the Gen2 Solaras do that? No. They said they would look into it and let me know when I get the seat lock installed. Here is the funny part: They told me if I bought the plastic wind deflector ($70) they would install it for free! AWESOME.

How much of a "stink" should I make about the roof? I spend most of the year with the windows down and the roof open, can Toyota just say its an "engineering issue" and do nothing?

does anyone else have trunk problems, when i shut the trunk i have to try and shut it like 4 times and then jiggle the piece inside the trunk b4 shutting it. i shut it then it pops up and down til it finally stays & annoyin the crap outa mee.. & im pissed i have chips of paint on the top of my side skirt! i called up toyota they better fix itt

On the trunk issue, is the remote opener inside the car jimmied or otherwise not in the closed position??

I have to shut mine pretty hard. I just thought it was an air-pressure issue...

its funny, when i push the trunk unlock it opens fine, but when i shut it just wont shut on the first try, u shouldnt have to slam the trunk to shut, im def. lettin the toyota i bought it from know about this. its a brand new car & probably have to get the right side skirt, fender and back bumper piece re painted cuz theres freakin chips, if i seen this i would have waited for a new solara, re painting the car is de preciating the re sell valueee

Agreed about the re-painting. that sux

But about the trunk: I think it just takes some force to close because there is so much air (its a damn big trunk) in there.

Here is an experiment (haven't tried it cuz i just thought of it): Fold down the seats and leave the doors open. If the trunk closes on the first try, its an air pressure issue, if not, its a locking mechanism issue.

Hmmm, my car has some paint anomalies too. In between the back bumber and the rear 1/4 panel, right by the back tire, I can see a rough edge of paint. It's creeping towards the bumper, and will need repainting after it gets to the flat surface. This is really small right now so I think most people would tell me to stop looking for problems. But I know it will deteriorate.

talk to you dealer.. I had a small problem with my paint on my hood.. there might be a defect in the paint that they used when they first sprayed your car.. if so.. toyota repaints it.. no charge to you and it will be a factory paint job....

so i went to my dealer today ( AN HOUR AWAY oyyy) and showed them that my trunk is messed up which they will fix cuz theres something wrong with the piece where it clicks into the bumper-this is not normal its a defect in the car, if ur trunk wont shut properly also, show ur dealer! & will fix the chips in the wedges of the side skirt,top of my real bumper and fender, this is annoyin as hell because on a 2006 this should b perfect! i dont want to spend my whole time wit the car going back and forth cuz of things that will bother me that toyota messed up on, & this is all free of charge.The only annoying part is the chips in between the wedges of the bumper and side skirt they said they will "touch up" ok can someone tell me if they should repaint the whole thing or jus touch it up. I dont want any rusting to happen.On the back bumper on the top he said it wont rust because its not metal can someone tell me if i should argue to get it full painted ( the chips arent very big BUT noticable to the human eye of just looking at it) or just "touched up"

I have yet to see a "touched up" job that looks as good as a repaint ...

The bumpers and side skirts (if SE Sport sides) aren't metal so no rusting will occur but a complete repaint will look much better than any "touchups" will ever look. If you have stock SE sides that's metal I believe.
