Tein SS how do you adjust ride height?

Postby silach » Sat Sep 10, 2005 2:16 pm

Hey,

Just got Tein SS installed yesterday...I'll post pics soon. The ride is sooo much better than the TRD springs with SLE struts. What a difference. I set the dampner at 10 in the front and 8 in the rear (the install guy's recommendation). I think I need to raise it just a hair though. The 17's fit inside the wheel well (sp?) but I don't think it'll clear with 18X8 (next purchase). Anyone know how to adjust the ride height on these. I have the tools that came with the struts. I guess I have to take out the fabric liner in the trunk to get to the rear ones. Do I have to take off the wheels in the front to get to the adjustment or can I access it from under the hood, this is where the dampner is accessed. Any suggestions will help...thanks!

Take the Tire Off. The Spring will be resting on top of two rounded adjustment nuts. Take the tool provided from Tein, which looks like a round half-moon shaped open ended wrench, loosen the adjustment nuts to desired height. After tightening, then put wheel back on. Drive around, then with ruler, measure distance between top of tire and botton of fender.
This clearance must be equal on all four, and if not, repeat this whole process.

Good luck. If you slam it I recommend putting it to the stiffest setting. My car isnt slam and I can already toooo easily scrape my kit already...

Well, since the thread got revived, let me ask a question: how much did you guys pay for installation ? I'm kind of curious since the Toyota dealers quoted me prices close to $1000 just to install the TRD springs all around.

Really depends on the place. To just have struts/springs or full coilovers(without fully adjusting it for you) costs roughly 120-150 in SoCal. Now to tune the coilovers for you...will cost a pretty penny.

Wow, that's cheap. I gotta start looking at some private shops around here.

Don't forget to get an alignment. Some shops offer a 1 time fee for unlimited alignments as long as you have the suspension on your ride. I used to get alignments about every 5k..had perfect treadwear =P

I may be wrong, but it doens't seem liek it would be THAT hard to so yourself.

Me and some friends just put the most SSHITTY coilovers ever on on my friends Cavalier. It wasn't full strut replacement, it was like cutting of all this stuff on the original strut to get the springs to work. Although I'll give them credit for 40 dolalrs (20 dollars for the kit 20 for shipping lol) they worked pretty damn good. We used the most crude methods too, took us several hours with terrible instructions and plenty of beer to get the job done, but it was worth it.

Anywho, it was fun, but it's a Cavalier. You're talking about a Solara, I woulnd't really risk it unless it looked just insanely simple. Plus a deal like that unlimited alignment thing sounds like it would be well worth it if you can find a place that will do it.

It's not THAT hard, but the convertible is considerably worse than the coupe because the back seat is integrated with the rollover system, and it has to be unmounted in order to work with the rear suspension. It's just more pain, but if I get a couple of days off, I might tackle it. It annoys me though that it kills the warranty.

Thanks for the advice guys!
