longeron from camry?

Postby jsie » Thu Sep 29, 2005 10:15 pm

Gen 2 Solara has 2 inches+ longer in the legroom and overal lenght compared to the current generation Camry sedan; and I don't know whether the unibody from engine bay toward the front part is identical or not.

I didn’t think that will be so difficult.

The element of unibody structure, where the beam of bumper, engine, radiators and all other stuff inside engine section mounts.

Will this element fit from camry?
And it is not a part, only an element of body. You must to cut it from another.
I understand it is quite tricky, but our mechanics can do even more. And if he is a good one, there will be no distinction from new car. Well I’ll tell you how it is to ride when I do it after some month.

To buy a good car from America is very expensive, because of the duty we must to pay by importing it. So we import crashed cars as a peace of crap and then repair them.

I think jsie understood what I mean.

Do you think it is really SE Sport?
Because on that website it is stated only SE.
I am wondering is it only a mistake?
Because as I can find on the web it is SE Sport.

it's definitely an SE Sport. It has the sport gauges, the sport interior and trim kit (the skirts). The site probably doesn't realize the difference, and assumes that since it just says "SE" on the back that that's what it is (the Sport models aren't badged as "Sport", just "SE") ...

Yep, definitely an SE Sport. BTW, how much did it cost you ? It looks like you'll need quite a bit of fixing done, but you may be lucky. If the part you were talking about is indeed part of the unibody, it may not be damaged (unless, of course, you know that for sure). The unibody is the stiffest part of the car, and I'd be surprised if it sustained significant damage. I'd be more concerned with the transmission and suspension, since the car looks like it was t-boned in the front left wheel. The ball joint is probabbly completely destroyed (from the position of the wheel) and the suspension may have been seriously damaged as well (the left front strut is resting on the tire, and it's leaning towards the outside at a fairly large angle).

Anyway, good luck with the repairs, and let us know how it turns out.

I dunno man, that car's gonna take some decent money fixing... The air bag alone is going to cost an arm and half a leg... Plus you still have to deal with the importing cost... Plus the rest of the damage... plus the fact that the car will NEVER drive like it was new... is it really worth it? Aren't there some pretty badass cars already in Europe that wouldn't be so much of a hassle?

All the indications as mentioned in the earlier message defenitely show it is an SE Sport, except 2004 SE Sport did not have leather seat option. The 2005 SE Sport model does; or the original owner put aftermarket leather finishing.

dude.. that thing looks FUBAR.. it would probably be cheaper to buy an 06 and have it imported to you.. plus it would be less work and heartache in finding parts to repair the one you got...
Is it too late to backout of the deal??

It cost to me 8 600 euro with shipping.
And I'm thinking with all the taxes, parts from US and work it will amount to 13 000 euro.
Of course I take some risk if the repairing of visible damage will cost more then I think (if it is damaged more then I see the seller will reduce the price). But on the other hand fixed car will cost about 16 500 euro (market price).
Yes, I could buy some other car. I was looking for audi a6 or bmw 5 (not the newest models). But those models are very popular among the thieves. And without question they are not so attractive and are at least 4 years older with app. 150k km on the odometer. Or I can buy a mazda or honda, but all of us know, the craftsmanship of Toyota :) Last week I was looking for the car and accidentally found another Solara. As I get in the car, I have already know what car I will buy. :o
And taking into account my Solara will be one of maybe ten other Solaras in my country, I will have the exclusive car that I can leave anywhere without being afraid of someone will take it.
Of course I’ll tell you how it will be with fixing my car, because I think I’ll need some more advice.

Well, good luck on that little project... I hope it all works out as you anticipate! The only thing that concerns me about cars that have sustained that much damage is the fact that no matter how good the repair may be there will always be accident related issues that pop up here and there (sometimes substantial ones).

I am telling you from personal experience... The reason I had stated that those pics brought back horrible memories is because some dude drove me into the back of a tractor trailor truck... I was reamed by the t-bar bumper, and my car looked very similar to yours afterward. My car wound up having nearly $9000 American dollars in damages by the time it was "finished" (note what I said about issues popping up here and there), and it wasn't as bad as yours... All of my damage was sustained on the front end, with heavier impact on the drivers side... I was somehow fortunate enough to come out of it with two MAJOR advantages over your car's condition... #1 I somehow had NO structural damage (no unibody / chassis damage) and #2 My air bag did not deploy. Virtually all of my damage was to the front body paneling, hood, bumper, radiator, steering assembly, wheel / tire, brake assembly, and my suspension was completely shredded on my drivers side (strut, spring, control arm, tie rod, etc, etc, etc)...

Anyhow, the point of that is watch what you get yourself into... I faced $9000 in damages (albiet I had a $600 aftermarket rim/tire and a $75 aftermarket spring replaced)... Airbags can cost up to a few $K to replace... and if you're looking at structural damages you're looking at some $$$ there as well (plus the strong possibility that it will never be quite right)...
