SLE Struts

I currently have the TRD springs.....soon to be replaced with Eibach and also want to change my SLE struts to the SE sport struts and was wondering if anyone knows if they would fit. My SLE struts seem to be buttoming out sometimes over bumps and is driving me crazy.

On a side not I spoke with Eibach directly and they confirmed that their spring is different from the TRD one. The tech I spoke with confirmed they make a Solara spring for TRD but with "TRD" specs "not stiff". He also confirmed that the Eibach pro kit spring come with a different "spring rate" meaning stiffer"

Yes, the SE Sport struts are the same application as the SLE struts.

They are considerably firmer, yet still seem more moderately "luxery" oriented than true "sports" oriented... They definitely make more of a difference when the car is dropped, however, as I have heard several people with the standard SE or SLE complain of more wheel bounce when dropped... I have never personally ran into, or heard of this issue with the SE Sports.

As far as where to get them... I have no idea besides the dealer... They aren't an aftermarket part, they are a factory replacement, so the online TRD specialists wouldn't offer them, and I wouldn't immagine they would be up on eBay considering there's only a few people who have actually replaced them with aftermarket equipment... So outside of a Toyota dealer itself you may not be able to get a hold of one until aftermarket variants are available (then you are facing a different issue)...

One thing you may want to try: I believe there are at least a couple people on SolaraGuy who have Gen2s with Coil-Over sets... I'm not sure if they have SE Sports, but if so they may have their old struts laying around... Whether they would be willing to part with them (if they are even SE Sport struts) is completely up to them, obviously (they may want to hold onto them for when they sell the car or something, who knows...) You may want to try putting out a request in the Gen2 Wanted / For Sale forum and see if you get any bites.

Good luck!

I just received my new SE Sport Struts yesterday and will be switching out the TRD springs for the Eibach. Interestingly the Eibach springs look just like the TRD ones and also has insulators as well. I was told by Eibach that the spring rate is different from the TRD so we will see. I just hope the clunk noise when I turn is gone because I am really over it. If this does not work I dont know what else to do........perhaps coils $$.... Nontheless I will be posting my brand new oem SLE struts with only 600 miles for sale.

I'm still skeptical about the ratings being different... the springs are the exact same drop (1.2" front, 1.4" rear) with the same coil spacing... For some reason I have a feeling that the struts themselves are going to be more of a difference than the springs in this case (assuming any difference at all from the springs). Good luck with that though, let us know how it goes.

I tend to agree with you, but it's interesting that the Eibachs are actually more expensive by about $50 - $60. If they were the same, you'd expect the TRDs to be more expensive.

If you don't mind my asking, where did you get the struts and how much did it cost you ?

Thanks.
