CP-e MAFci Product Review - Gen 2, V6

where is it?

Postby mmcdonald » Wed Jul 06, 2005 4:53 am

Sorry, I didn't get this info from the thread.

Is this product on the market yet for the Gen 2?

I went to cp-e.com and they only have products for Mazda, Nissan and Subaru.

Do you have to call them for this stuff? I am interested in purchasing.

Summary and Pre-Ordering info
For now PM me Name, Phone, and email to get on the list. When it makes it to their website, they'll contact everyone on the list w/ instructions to place the web order, take CC and shipping info. They'll charge the CC only when it ships. Currently first run of pipes is submitted to the bender. Web ordering will happen when they have a promise date from them.

Thanks a lot for the extensive review (bump)!

You obviously spent a good deal of time on this and I thank you.

I got a couple of questions.

First, the graphs show the comparison only from about 3500rpm and up for both torque and horsepower. While the HP is fairly irrelevant below 3500rpm, the torque is quite important below 3500rpm. Probably few of us are actually keeping the engine over 3500 rpm most of the time, so I'd like to know what the graph looks like below 3500rpm, especially since the cp-e seems to suddenly drop below the stock performance below this limit.

Secondly, since HP shows as a max of about 180, I assume that value is at the wheels. So, that would tell me that the HP would actually be about 240-245. Would that be correct ?

So how is this working out in the long run? I am expecting the unit to be ready at the end of August, but would like to hear a more long term impression of the mod. Any word, down2thec?

Nothing more from downtothec on this. Curious. What is happening with long term reviews of the product? It is due out in a couple of weeks and we haven't heard from the salesman since early July. How about the dyno results questions from Lone Solara, too?

Sorry... been away then busy then away...
Still lovin' mine but the shop hasn't come through with the initial order yet. Ours didn't even make it onto the website update when several other models are there with "Coming Soon". So I have a call to make.
Meanwhile, Phreak and I got together before the meet in IL. I tell you that the 3" Injen does give you the scream on the high end. Didn't seem to be there until 3K+ RPM though.
Power... hard to tell since we had troubles getting the electronics working right. But they seem about the same with the AFC still on.
I'll update when I talk to them. They said August and that ship is sailing fast. Sorry for being MIA.

P.S. The standard DynoJet only runs the upper end. Maybe someone with more experience in the field can tell you why, I can just tell you that's the way it is throughout the industry. Google for any Dyno results and you'll see the same.
Also calulating real HP is fuzzy. You have a percentage of loss to the wheels with the gearing. So you go with what you can get... wheel HP.

I e-mailed cp-e several times and got no response back. My only guess is the pre-order list is not as large as they wanted to begin production.

Josh isn't great about getting back with email. He's better with the phone. Number's on the web page. Last contact was about three weeks ago when they were asking about the Solara Generation years for the web site. Didn't seem to make it in though. I'll keep you posted. It is possible that they are just swamped getting all those other "Coming Soon"s out.

Sorry for the delay all, I finally got hold of the shop.

They are still waiting on the pipes from the bender but they have completed all the other parts of the production kits so once they have the pipes they can assemble and powdercoat and ship within a week. They are sticking with this vendor because he gives them a really good deal since they're a start-up shop. (2 years) But it's taking the bender longer than expected to get moved into a new facility.

Further updates as needed.

The pipes are on the way to the shop now. The website is not updated for the Solara so please email JAdams@cp-e.com with your desire to get a kit and he will call you to get ordering info. First kits should ship within two weeks. Card won't be charged until your kit ships. PM me with any questions.

EDIT: 9/13 - Pipes are welded and on the way to the PC shop.

Just to clear up a misunderstanding... the MAFci kit is completely reversible to stock. In fact, it will take about 10 minutes for the pipe and five seconds to disconnect your "customizer" from the ECU. It has three wire taps that pull right off and two wires that "intercept" the MAF output to go in the customizer then out to the ECU. So put that one wire back together and you're stock again. I had trouble because I didn't install it and didn't have instructions so I was guessing a bit. You guys will be putting it in so you'll know.

Tip: when you put the wire taps in for that MAF line, arrange them so you can disconnect the customizer and reconnect the two ends of the stock wire. (arrange the male/female blade edges to mate up in both configs.) That way you're truly reversible with zero work.
