I bet you it's something along the lines of competent but unexciting with dangerous rear visibility. Comments like those seem to be the norm in Solara reviews.

I glanced at Motor Trend Online reviews for the 05 and 06... they were all pretty positive... I'll have to hit up Borders or something this weekend to check out the actual magazine, but why don't you give us a rundown meanwhile?

I don't care for the "UGLY" comment they make. Seems that if the styling is the Avalon or some other vehicle, it's considered sleek, attractive and appealing...but port the same desing concept to the Solara and they call it UGLY...go figure. I think most of these reviewers are off base anyway because they are not in touch with what the public wants, needs and likes. My Solara is far from UGLY and receives compliments all the time...and it's basically stock.

I only considered the 99-01 Solara for purchase. I think it was the perfect blend of luxury, sport and style. Jon.

Um, who really cares about what some writer in a buyers guide thinks. The only important factors are reliability and value, and hey, its a toyota. For every car there are going to be people who hate it or love it, that guy probably drives a honda CRX and thinks its a Ferrari.

Then why did you get the SLE V6? You could have gotten the Base model 4 banger if those are the only two factors in a car. Your arguement is fruitless. Did he say "The car is going to blow up after 20k miles and it is way overprice."? Nope.

I think they are ugly too. It looks like the had to ship the clay model of the design in a box that was smaller than the car, so they shortened the front even and rounded it off too much to me.

I guess me and the writer would get along in our CRXs :o

Looks like I hit a sore spot with the CRX comment, huh? I care about performance so I enjoy the V6. But at the end of the day all that really matters is getting from point A to point B, without having to stop by the repair shop. I don't need someone to tell be about the performance of a car, i can test drive and see if I like it. And I don't need you or him to tell me your opinion about the shape or size of the car, I have eyes. If I didn't like the look I wouldn't have bought it.

Guys guys... enough battling over Gen 1(.5) vs. Gen 2 (we're all Solara owners in the end)... What matters is we all bought what we did because we liked what we drove (no matter what car we wound up with)... and we are happy with our cars because they have managed to bring us the satisfaction we desire, whatever that may be... People are entitled to their opinions; I respect an opinion that my car looks like a steaming pile of crap just as much as an opinion that my car is the hottest thing on earth... I don't like trash talk opinions, or opinions out of spite, but if it's a genuine opinion then there's nothing wrong with it... After all, the fact that people do have different preferences is what makes our cars unique... if everyone else loved and drove them, I sure as hell wouldn't (that's why I decided against the G35 coupe, I can't spit out my window without hitting one in my area).

Get what ya love, and love what ya get...

-James

Hey I have a gen 1 and after 2 years i still love my baby! Screw those sorry ass writers, they get paid off as it is and right now I bet GM is putting major dinero in their pockets, so I would imagine some good reviews for GM models right now, and bad for manufacturers like toyota and honda etc.

I dig both bodies. Never met a person who thought either was ugly so that writer is seriously in a small minority. (Along with Mossy) When you stray from the pat sedan some people aren't going to like the design. To the writer and anyone else who's not a fan... don't buy one. No big.

You have to admit, a stock base model gen 2 can have its ugly points.
