I'd be interested in a lil bit of friendly straight shot competition between my '04 SE Sport V6 and someone's non S/C Gen 1 V6... I don't care if it's manual or not... I'll take out my subs / box, but leave in my amps / rack... spare stays in as well...

I have no engine mods... Only the TSB Throttle Lag fix, DocJohn's "Vacuum Trick", TRD air filter, and TRD Sport Muffler...

I do have TRD springs, rims, sway bar, and strut tower brace.. but as I said, this is a straight shot so those are mostly just dead weight... if your tires grip, you'll be fine.

Gentlemen's drag: Winner comes out with a smile... Loser comes out with no excuses...

DC Metro area, any takes?

Lol Ohio's a bit of a hike from VA just for a run to see which gen is on top stock :-P You could do the new car thing, but I'd prefer to have both cars fully broken in and the lag fix on the Gen2 definitely needs to be applied.. Also, no comparing converts to coups... of course the converts are gonna be more sluggish!

Lol... 2 Gen 2s running, while it would be interesting, still wouldn't answer the nagging "Gen 1 vs Gen 2" question...

I'd just love to see a Gen1 I4 manual run with a Gen2 I4 manual followed by the Gen1 V6 manual running with the Gen2 V6 5spd auto w/ lag fix... I think the outcomes would be interesting...

Regarding you and I: I'd say we'd be pretty close (going strictly by equipment and the blind assumption that the level of competency between both drivers is equal)... I have the lag fix and DocJohn's vacuum trick applied as well with the sound dampener removed and a TRD air filter in place... I'm also running Mobil 1 synthetic and never go below 92 Octane (as if it makes a difference)... I'm sure I weigh a bit more than you with my 18"s (not to mention I also have 2 hefty amps instead of 1), but I prolly grip and hold better as well... I also got the TRD muffler (small things come into consideration when twins are racing)... But, unfortunately, we'll prolly never know what the results would be! If I still lived over in Northern Cali I'd be willing to go on a weekend trip to find out... but now I'm kinda cross-country :-P

James,
Have you been to Arrieta Motorsports? Just across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in MD. They have built several Solaras from the block up with any combination of SC, turbo and nitrous.
I'm in Tysons. Will race you but we'd have to include at least a couple jumps.

Hey.. I have heard of them, but never been there... if you have connections there, I seriously wouldn't mind taking the "first boosted Gen2" prize... If they're willing to do a bit of R&D, I'm willing to pay the price... I ain't a nitro man, but I'd love to go for a turbo (S/C may not be as plausible, but if it is I'd prefer it).

Regarding racing you... haha I'm not one for jumps either...

My friends are all boring. Nobody wants to have some fun taking a car on a test drive and dragging it. So somebody else should do it.
