dealer refused lag tsb

They aren't obligated so it is up to you to be very convincing that you are experiencing the conditions mentioned in the TSB. Even if just some of the time, that should be good enough. Just say you are seeing that behavior and if necessary show the TSB. They usually want to apply a TSB if they think the conditions warrant it.

Hey guys. Well, I got my TSB lag fix done today. Brought it in in the morning with the TSB in hand. Went through the drill... first told them my problem, was told the head mechanic would go on a test drive with me, waited for him, he came over looked at my info and said he thinks there was a fix in for the problem.

Didn't even test drive it, just got the paperwork done. Got it back later in the day and I am very happy. One of the biggest areas for me was on a left turn in an intersection. If I was at a stop, and then needed to go , that lag would scare me a lot.

All seems fixed now.

Thanks to everyone here for all your help.

Well, my car goes in on Friday for the lag issue and about six other problems. All but one of the problems has a TSB. Wish me luck. :)

I took my car to NoHo Toyota for the TSB. I've been dealing with Joey Bernardo, really nice guy. He said they would flash the ECU but they were not succesful....still has the lag so they've decided to replace it. It's about a $2,000 part but at no cost to me thank goodness. I'm supposed to have my car back Tuesday so I'll let you guys know if replacing the computer fixes the problem. FYI NoHo Toyota has been very helpful about every little issue I've had. They're also paying for my rental.

Did you remove your Injen Intake before you took it back to the dealer? (Just curious how the dealer would react to mine.) I've had the TSB done but have other items to be taken car of.

No, Injen intake is still on and they didn't even say anything about it. LOL

Yeah, after driving for a while now, I still dont see much different. It lags less, but still sometime. It cannot be as quick as a mechanical throttle.

The more I drive after the TSB, the worse it gets. Not as bad as before the TSB, but not as good as right after the TSB. Anyone else experience this??

The service manager told me that while they will do the TSB on my car, it does not appear to be the final fix. He said he is good friends with an engineer at Toyota and that Toyota may end up replacing the entire ECU on cars with severe lag. FWIW, the service manager's wife has a '04 Solara with the same lag so he is quite familiar with it.

Just replacing the ECU is not going to make a change, unless they apply the TSB to the new ECU as well. On my 04 SLE Conv. they actually fried the ECU while trying to apply the TSB, so they replaced my ECU with a brand new one. That didn't improve things, so they applied the TSB to the new ECU. That made for some change, but still not perfect. Since I have an 06 SLE now, I now how the car should drive. That being said, this happened at the end of June, so they may have made changes since then. Good luck with your ride.

BTW, the ECU costs $1350 according to the invoice they showed me.

I think what TW85 is saying is that Toyota may manufacture a new ECM with new software on it, not just replace stock for stock.

Yes, that is what I meant. The ECU is not a cheap item. Wonder why Toyota has had such a lag problem? The same problem was heavily discussed on Lexus forums before the '04 Solara was ever released.

Anyway, the service manager I am working with says he expects for a new fix to be released shortly that may include replacing the ECU with a completely different unit (new software instead of reprogramming). I am still going to have the TSB applied to my car to see if it makes any difference.
