Has anybody tried that new Q high performance "heat activated" motor oil? I put mobil 1 syntec in mine and notice a very small increase in fuel economy but no noticable increase in performance... Is it bad to switch ooil brands, my bf said if your car didn't come with synthetic that you're not supposed to switch it out, or something... Anyway was just wondering if any of you have tried that quakerstate Q...

You will never notice a difference in performance by changing motor oil.
Changing motor oil frome either regular to synthetic will not harm your engine. Just save your money and use regular Castrol 5-30 oil.

I haven't used the new "Q" but if anyone should know, these guys are pretty knowledgeable about oil (click below):

Try a search of their oil forums. Their Air Filtration Test is interesting, too.

As competitive as the Engine Oil field is, I can't see this new Q being significantly or noticeably better than the Mobil 1 you're using now.

It's fine to switch to or mix synthetic as long as you don't mix the oil weights/grades (e.g. don't top off 5W-30 with 10W-30, etc.). I have heard that synthetic might cause seal problems in old cars (I don't use synthetic in my really old car, so I can't confirm). None of our Solaras are THAT old.

It's also generally advised to try to stick to one brand of oil, since different companies use different additive packages in their oil (The additives are usually what they're bragging about in their ads.).

I just read those tests he did with the different companies and materials that air filters use. . . I'm surprise at the results
