Alarm System Investment

Alarm System Investment

Postby dvdchris45 » Wed Aug 03, 2005 11:56 am

So after finally going through with the Valor unit (Valor head unit thread) I like many others out there (I hope) worry about getting my system torn out. Making such a purchase into my car defintely didnt buy be any peace of mind so I need to invest in some peace of mind. So..I need a good alarm system, something with a pager, shock sensor, THE WORKS.

What kind of aftermarket alarm system do you guys recommend?

P.S. And if anyones think I should keep the factory system, let me know.

I got an alarm from CC that cost me $300 including installation. It was the Python 700. In your case I would go for something like this

$300 installed? Is that regular price or what? On the website it goes for more than $350!

I just scheduled to have one of these installed for $299 at circuit city (extra for trunk/window/etc modules if you want them), with lifetime warranty on the unit and wiring, and 1 year on remote/siren and $20 prorated afterwards, with free uninstall/reinstall for warranty work.

I'm going to add in a proximity sensor later myself (plug and play) for $45 from Python (DEI). The 700 has the shock sensor and everything else, and the LED's save precious battery life vs the LCD ones.

I don't like the stock one on my 99 SLE... it seems to do a better job of keeping the car in place than keeping the stereo in place... has a transponder for the key but no other real security fatures. Dunno what your 04 sports in terms of security features.

My circuit city does nice work too, no waiting more than a day and nice clean soldering on the installs (no crimping or just splicing with electrical tape like Best Buy pulled on my last car and fried the stereo). They've done 3 of our cars perfectly.

Key transponder and alarm when door unlocked w/o the key or remote. So stereo would rip out without a sound as long as they slid in a broken window.

I had an Clifford Alarm on my old 02 Camry. Did windows, lock, trunk, shock, glass, tilt, remote start, battery sensing, and many other features. Thing cost me an arm and a leg but it was well worth it. Everyone new my car was like fort knox no one ever messed with it. DEI has bought Clifford since and I never got it installed. I think your best bet is to go with a DEI product like the Sidwinder or Viper. DO NOT GET THEM INSTALLED AT BEST BUY OR CIRCUIT CITY. Those guys will hack your car like no ones's business. They don't take the time like most good reputable car installers do. That's my 2 cents.
