listen i am looking for some input or ideas guys.. i work in a shop that make perforated metal as there main product and i can make any shape hole layed out in any pattern imaginable

i am making a custon grill because ive yet to come across one that i like

i dont like the toyota emblem in the center but i dont like it plain either..anyone have any ideas on some sort of emblem to attach to the grill center

i was thinking about a trd emblem but i want a nice heavy solid metal emblem..any links or suggestion?

also if you could make a grille for your car with absolutely no restriction (with in reason) what would you do..anyone have any ideas they have been pondering? anything you would like to see ona front grille for a solara such as hole design,shape..color..

right now i am stuck on a special pattern screen painted black and a trd enblem in the center...so that the trd emblem is "floating"

Yeah, search around for different emblems to put on. There is a site that makes custom emblems too.

that truck emblem looks about right..was thinking of a centered one but that could work..

pics if you get it done before i do

one thing i do like about the 2000 stock grille is the chrome surounding it.

i would like to use the stock frame and cut the plastic out just like everybody else but before i go at it i need to decide on a good material and method of attachment to have a nice clean seem between the two..

there is alreadt a seam between the chrome and black area of the stocker i need to utilize this somehow

yeah i figured others may want this grille cuz i can guarantee it will look like no other aftermarket out there but i will not be able to produce them as it will be extensive work for a single person..i will however put up a tutorial w/ pics when i start the project and will also be able to offer the center "screen" design when complete.that i can make multiple easily..shape will be produced with a cnc program also so fitment will be perfect once i get it down

i did find trd logos/emblem i will use i just need to decide whether it will be centered or off to one side like the above pic

also the screen will be make from a custom pattern design that i am currently working on now. i am trying to incorporate a shape that will blend with the car..perhaps long thin oblong shapes..will post some test drawing later

i am having trouble with one point and that is the attachment..i will not do this unless i can guarantee a "show quality" look..

attaching the screen to plastic chrome is a tought one but i will get it

ive got a question about offering some diy materials for gen 1 grilles

if i took the time to creat a cnc program that would cut out the exact shape of our front grille frame(chrome) and also radius it to match the contours perfectly would anyone be interested in buying these?

you would need to cut out the bars in the stock frame and sand the nubs down and possibly paint over the sanded area. this is relatively easy and can be done with a little mechanical apptitude.

the grill would be a really good fit and would be available in a few different patterns. there would also be everthing you need to attach the grille itself..you would need cutting and sanding accessories however(dremel?)

but are there enough people that are do it yourselfers on here?

the hardest part of cutting and fitting the metal screen and attachment method would be already done for you?

just curious

other options could include a trd emblem and pre painted for extra charge

base charge in the neighboorhood of 50 bux.

i am going to measure the bottom area now..this seems much easier to creat a custom grille for than the top

i really am not that interested in selling them
only reason i ask is this..

i will measure and produce from a cnc machine..when i get it down i will be able to produce them alot quicker than the first one.

the first one will take a significant amount of trial and error. i might think a bit to much to justify one grille..ya know..thought it might be a nice diy kit w/ a painted screen that fit just right, directions, and a trd emblem..no?

if i can find a used grille relatively cheap i will definitley make one as there is no risk..anyone got one gen1? dont feel like dropping 100 for this project plus the time..

Yeah, $100 is too much for testing. Man, there was a guy on here who sold his grille, not to long ago, that had been started on. That would've been perfect.

grill for sale

Postby hskrsolara » Wed Aug 03, 2005 11:00 pm

Hey man,
I may have a grill for sale. OEM, It is still in good shape, off my 99, with a gold emblem. I am thinking of just buying a new one, with a chrome emblem, from that site that Astro listed and then selling the old one. Just shoot me an offer, if it is decent, I will probably sell it to you. Later.

ive got some pattern designs down on autocad. the dwg is not the correct fitment but if you want to see designs and are able to view dxf or dwg i email them to you for feedback

tough to determine what will look best w/out actually making and painting them, then sticking that TRD logo on there
