Paint problems

Postby silversurfer220 » Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:14 pm

Washed my car tonite and noticed the tips of the rear bumper (where the bumper attaches to the wheel wells behind the tires), the paint is coming off of there- looks like its rubbing against the body of the car and rubbed the paint off. Is this something worty of complaining about? Its going in this coming week for the rust under the hood- where the silver trim piece meets the hood. I cant believe how "fragile" the paint is on these cars. I'll try to take some pix tomorrow during the day.

I'd definately have it looked at, because it will become a bigger problem.

I understand your pains on paint issues. I'm having paint problems with my convertible as well. There is a metal trim peice that goes around the top on the trunk, where the third brake light is mounted. The paint is bubbling and falling off mine around the brake light. It goes in Monday for a new one. On the bright side, the dealer took one look at it and said thats not acceptable and ordered me a new one right away. Good luck with your issues
When in doubt gas it out, brakes just slow you down.

Must have been a bad batch flown into KY. I'm going to keep an eye on mine. No troubles yet.

im having paint problems too, but it seems almost like the paint itself is oxidizing. all over my bumper and trunk, there are little brown flecks of rust, or what appear to be, and the only way to get it off is to use my finernails. i live in florida but i dont live near thew ocean so it cant be the air. anybody have suggestions?

Rust is usually the metal oxidizing. I never heard of paint oxidizing. Doubt it is rust if you can scrape it off with your fingernails and there is paint underneath. You sure it isn't stuff from trees, etc? I'd be careful using fingernails anyway. Can you wash it off at all?

I had similar issues with my Sequoia and my wifes 2004 Solara also has the rust specs. I think its the metal break dust turning into rust spots. I will have the dealer deal with it.

Monday is my final date for pick up after nearly 2 weeks worth of delays.

Had my high mount brake light trim panel replaced yesterday to fix a peeling paint problem.

Clay it using detailing clay. Will remove all foreign matter. Besure to wax or use a polymer sealant after you are done. See the detailing sticky.
