i'd wait till you get to about 10k b4 you switch to synthetic. gives your engine a chance to break in. Thats the theory i've always heard.

Good tip you should wait till the break in period is over because Mobil 1 suggests it too. Remember once you go synthetic you can't go back.

I just use regular Castrol, I have always been told that it does not make a big difference. Our cars are built to last anyway. I for one do not ever keep a car for more than a couple years, so it will never affect me. I have had this car for a year, and in another 4 months it will be the longest I have ever owned a car.

i have had two cars and run mobil 1 synthetic in them and i think it makes a difference.. both engines ran as smooth and powerful as the days i got them.

never burned any oil, leaked etc....

search the internet i believe there is a consensus that full synth makes a significant difference

i switch from synthetic to regular oil all the time and no burning or drips. First time I used full synthetic was @ 130k. Every time I go to the track, i pour in synthetic, for everyday it eats normal oil. No difference in my motor and still runs fine. The synthetic though does give me more power/mpg/and allows me to rev smoother/faster.

You can hear it

The car sounds different with M1 syn, it's like when they started laser polishing the cylinder walls in the 90s. I'm religious about M1 probably because of Formula1.

From what I understand, synthetics work better under conditions that might be considered abuse (leaving it in longer than recommended, high engine temperatures). Synthetics gives you a larger margin of error; you decide if you need that margin.

I dont know if thats a movie phrase or what..But do you mean if you switch back to normal that it can actually harm your car more?

Hooey. You can switch back and forth as you see fit. In fact, a lot of synthetics contain more than a fair amount of dinosaur juice.

the oil isn't as imporant as the filter.don't go cheap on that and from what i've read on line, avoid fram oil filters, the are low quality.the filters from toyota are actully a good quality filter and a fairly decent price.
