Should I buy It ('05 Solara w/ Rebate)

Stopped by a local Toyota dealer and had advertised a new '05 Solara, silver, sticker price of $20,000... dealer's now offering $16,800 on it now, but looks like can negotiate it for even lower..
One reason for the discounts are it's a 5 speed manual with the 4 cylner engine.. but it's got all the other features except sunroof, it's pretty decked out. Apparently, dealer wants to move it FAST...
What do you all think... good deal???

Bradn spankin new? I say jyes. MY 99 V6 was 10,500 after a ton of hagglign witha sticker of 13,995 being 6 years old with 47,500 miles. not knowing mcuh about the line 4 Solara prices but basing it on that considering that was a good deal... hell yes, very good deal I'd say.

Yep.. it's only a Four, but parents out East also own a 2002 Camry 4 cylnder, & that's got a lot of pick-up and move power...
As this Solara I'm looking at is brand spanking new, 2005 model year, & next generation at that, it should be even stronger, right?? (Gotta look up the HP and Torque on this baby).

157hp. 162lb. ft torque. Sucks that our cars dont have much of aftermarket engine upgrades besides the TRD muffler. As for the cp-e and Injen intakes, I dunno if its applicable to the 4 bangers. Nevertheless, thats a good deal for a solara.

CP-e does not have anything in the works for the 4cyl. As for Injen, the IS2025P SRI listed for the '02-'03 Camry should be your part. (It's just not CARB approved for '04-'05 Solara but the physical fit is the same.)

Why don't you test drive it first to see if it has enough power for you? It's not that lame an engine, seemed pretty decent to me.

Thanks for all the tips.. Another factor I have to consider is rear seat room, enough to haul wife, baby kid and her carseat, and mom-in-law around if I have to. Never had a coupe before, so is it a hassle hauling passengers around??

don't consider solara for its rear passanger room, its comfy, but its very confined! Its roomier than other coupes..but if you have a baby, i'd say consider a camry, its not going to be fun pulling your pssngr seat front every time you want to access your baby!

I don't know about you guys but I dont think Solara makes a good "family" car, it's more of a sporty 2 seater. How about the Corolla S type those 4 doors come in handy and has gitty-up.

it is very very roomy and comfortable that you can have sex in many positions. no i didnt have sex in gen2, i just realized that when i clean back seat for my gf.

my gf's family (dad, mom, grandmom, uncle..etc) all love her gen 2 solara, quiet, stable, and comfortable. be honest with you i think it is very close to lexus riding quality. For the bucks of money, it is worth it. but once again, it is slow

Good point... but only reason I'm contemplating this Solara is the discounts dealer's willing to give. Biggest one I've ever seen myself on any Toyota, and can't get any deal close to that with any new Corollas.
The price for this Solara is almost identical to well equipped Corolla after the rebates.
