General Bitching Re Aftermarket Wheels

Maybe it's me, but it seems like all the designs that I find really attractive are +1 or +2 (I have 17" now). Yes, the plus sizes are nice looking but not enough to make it worth repurchasing my month-old tires.

The 225/45-18 tires, even from Costco, would effectively double the cost of upgrade. It won't break me, but sure don't like it.

I had direct links to the wheels I was looking at from Tire Rack, but it seems the nice folks at T.R. don't like people doing it.

If you have any suggestions from chromed 17" wheels, I'm all ears. Otherwise, thank you for taking the time to listen to my little rant.

I'm waiting for my Turanzas to wear out before I do my rim upgrade. Just cant bring myself to get rid of barely worn out tires.

Today, I'm here visiting the Chicago 'burbs enjoying the beautifully smooth roads in the Oakbrook area. (Must be nice to live in a rich area.) Every city connected to Oakbrook has the typical potholes, expansion joints , etc. My thoughts are that if I just lived and drove on these glass smooth roads, 19 or 20" would be great. But, in the real world around here, 18's will do you just fine. Ride quality and wheel durability are the concerns. Cheap wheels are available on the internet for $800 with tires. hit a pothole and you're done.

Being an ex-Chicagoan, I understand the importance of a strong wheel on these hellish roads. Stick with the brand names and even talk to their tech lines for recommendations. (Special alloys, forged, one piece or two, etc..)

Now that I live in the Detroit area, the Chicago roads are looking much better to me now. Detroit's roads are designed to be an endurance course for the Big 3.
