Need Help: Oil Pressure Sending Unit & O2

Postby PhreakdOut » Thu Jul 07, 2005 8:22 pm

I'm adding some gauges and I have two questions that I need help on ASAP. (Typing with greasy hands)

1) Where the heck is the oil pressure sending unit on the 3MZ-FE (Gen2 3.3L V-6) engine? Usually one would find it near the oil filter, but not that I can see.

Anyone with a manual? First correct response gets two SolaraGuy.org decals from me!

2) The O2 sensors have four wires. Two black, one white and one blue. I suspect the white is the signal wire. Is this correct? If not, which one is it?

Same as before, I have decals for smart people. :-)

Any help is appreciated!!

Dang last minute mods before a show. When will I learn? I leave for Chicago tomorrow.

Name your bribe.

I'll look it up at lunch if no one has stepped up. Gotta get to my manuals. Call me next time you need something from the manual. Didn't see this last night.

I had the EWD in the car... It's showing O2 sensors with four wires to the ECU. WHITE, blue, Black, and Yellow. Doesn't agree. White and black are labeled as the Ox sigs. Blue and Yellow are labeled HT1B and HT2B. Not sure what that's for but the go to 9-14 V in the ON position, and 0-3V at idle. So that's not what you want.

White and Black are labeled "OX1B and OX2B:Pulse Generation. (Maintain engine Speed at 2500 rpm for two minute after warming up)"

Can you tell I'm still learning how wto read the EWD?

Just found what blue and yellow are. They are the heater circuit for the Heated Ox Sensors. ECU controls that. Hopefully you can find the white wire. Otherwise I'm guessing its the two black and someone had a bad day when they put together that cluster. (or this manual)

I'm glad I'm not on a bomb disposal unit. (Do I cut the red wire or the blue wire?) LOL

Thanks for the help. After reading this a few times, it appears the white wire is the one. I'll assume the black (one or both) are grounds. (That reminds me, I need to check and see if my car was built on a Monday. This might explain the wires. )

Did you have any luck on finding the location of the oil pressure sending unit (or sensor)? You're looking at a clean sweep on the SG Trivial Pursuit! :-) I was all over the lower half of the engine block!

I'm assuming Oil pressure switch is the equivalent for our car. It's just forward (and a little up) from the main crank pulley. Hard to see. There's two plugs there so I'm trying to find it in the EWD to see which it is. The pic in the manual was lame. I think it's the one with a big black plastic cap/harness and two wires. But there's a smaller clear capped plug with one wire. I'll let you know when I find it in the EWD, but maybe you'll know when you see them.

It is the one-wire guy. (And apparently it's Gray. Bad lighting.)

Ouch! Nice location! However, it appears that it may be accessable by skinned knuckles through the right front wheel well.

Working gauges will have to wait till after the show. (Bummer)

Thanks for the help & I'll give you the decals tomorrow am.

Hey... just mount them. Judges won't see the car running!

I just noticed your post. (Over a week later) The judge never said a thing about the gages.

A couple of notes for those considering an Air/Fuel gage on a Gen2:
1) The car has 4 O2 sensors. One in each manifold / converter assembly and one in each leg before the Y-Joint in the front pipe. Translation: If you connect to one of these O2 sensors, you're only measuring one side of the engine. (You can trace the wire harness from the four sensors. If you have a wiring diagram, check to see if it somehow goes to one wire into the ECU. If so, tap from that wire.)

2) I have a bunch of powdered metal O2 sensor flanges shaped to fit on the rounded surface of a pipe. Just drill a 22mm hole in the pipe after the Y-Joint. (Make sure you drill the hole where the O2 sensor will clear and not get damaged by road debris.) MIG weld the O2 sensor over the hole. Make sure there are no leaks. Run a 5th O2 sensor into the new flange and connect it to the gage.

Make sure you have new inlet gaskets for when you reinstall the pipe.

I'm planning to do this next week sometime. (Depending on access to a MIG or TIG welder.)

I'll post up in the tutorial section.

For the A/F gauge, tap the blue line....Thats where youll get the signal to from the o2 sensor.. As for the pressure line, Gah I forgot but Ill recheck if I can and see...But its better to tap it from the computer....
