I'm pretty much a Alpine, Pioneer and Eclipse guy when it comes down to sound quality. And of course Mcintosh if you have mad loot. However, if your looking for the one of the most features for the dollar, the Pioneers are a bargin with good sound quality. Alpines and the Eclipse i pick because of the nice D/A converter (on the CD/DVD side) they have out of the box from high-end unit to low. This can be seen in the Signal to Noise specifications to show you how much background noise the unit can pickup. usually the higher the rating the better. Background noise from the singer spitting on the mic to a pin drop on the floor... That is just MHO. :D

Good luck on however the rout you go Bro. :P

Sup Bro,

IMHO... If your looking for one of the ultimate HU, then I'd go with the Alpine F1 series or the Pioneer Premier P9 w/ DEQ P9 (DSP). With both units, the gains/EQ/crossovers can be set/ controled by the HU. Both setups also have the option to go to a fiber optic connection setup. This transalates to cleaner signals (digital) to DSP unit then passed on to the AMPs. Talk about sonic nova.

I built a killer install that sounded incredible with the factory headunit. So realize that it is not the most important thing.

It is however very important if you plan on wiring an active front speaker setup. (which imo is the only way to go for high end, screw passive crossovers)

The DEH-P860MP has a very flexible 3 way crossover. IMO the perfect budget SQ headunit.

If you want to go with a 3 way active(tweeter, midrange, and midbass) setup, with a sub you will need a 4 way crossover.

In this case I would go with a Pioneer P9 combo, or An Alpine CDA9835(I don't like the newer 9855;s) and the H700 proccesor.

Throw out a budget for the whole system and I'll put some stuff together if you want.

That perfectly fits his $350 price range... I like your idea lilm111! You post your budget so we can help you find the best bang for the buck! We all don't have 3K to blow on F1 Status units.

Since you're doing a whole system, you may want to look into the Alpine series and sticking within that brand until you need to get other parts. I'm not too familiar w/ the units, but most of them sound pretty good.

As for amps, I'd go w/ Eclipse D-Class and Multichannel amps. Best rated THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) and awesome S/N Ratio. Plus you get find them pretty cheap online now. The amps (higher end ones from Eclipse) have built in capacitors... lol I thought Toyota's charging system was strong. It was just the amp =P

For Components, it depends on your budget. I never really looked around for mine. I just heard the Diamond Hex and was impressed (my buddy's benz has them!). You may want to check out MB Quart (definately cheaper) or even check out Resonant Engineering (see link below) components. $ for $, they are awesome.

For subs, you may want to look up www.reaudio.com . Give them a call and ask if there is a local dealer. RE SE Subs (nice middle of the line sub) runs about $250 retail. A lot of shops discount it if you mention the correct referral though. PM me if you need help getting these subs. They are almost on an "invite only" status! LOL! I've heard prices for 12" RE SE going for about $200... but it's all relative to your location and how much the shop would like to hook it up.

In the end, you may spend a little more than budgeted, but it'll save you money in the long run. You won't be swapping parts in and out of the car because you're not happy with it. Just save up a little more and spend the money correctly. You won't regret it!!!
1GR-FE ftw!

Here's a baddass system in your budget.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

See if Jackass-Jeff can get you a similar deal through his hookup.

For an amp check out this Helix HXA500
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW
Peter Lufrano is the Owner of the www.theautofile.com

This amp would be perfect for an active front stage and a sub.

Front speakers Seas G18RNX mids(if they'll fit check mounting depths) with LPG 25NFA tweeters.
www.madisound.com
www.diymobileaudio.com

For a sub, I'd go with an Image Dynamics IDQ15D4 in a 1.35 cu ft sealed enclosure.
For a less exspensive option look at an ID12V3D4.

For deadener I use raammat60. 89 bucks for 62.5 sq ft. Butyl based, not asphalt like most other deadeners(peal and seal, fatmat, eDead)
