LAG issue 91 octane?

LAG issue 91 octane?

Postby silach » Sat Jul 02, 2005 1:38 pm

I had my car in this week for the sunroof and lag issue. the entire sunroof had already been replaced but there's a new tsb...for the cable assembly. parts are on order.

the service tech did confirm a lag problem and said he would reprogram the ECU when the sunroof parts come in. the only thing is he wrote "will require 91 octane (no 92 in CA) after reprogram" on the service order. I wonder if the car will ping if i put 87 in it after?

The TSB says to get optimum acceleration use 91 octane. I don't think that's the same as saying you have to from now on use 91 or higher octane. Right after my ECU reflash I had 89 octane in my car and felt a big difference. I then tried 93 octane. Regardless of the octane, the car feels more powerful now. My dealer made it sound that if I didn't use 91 octane, the ECU would relearn wrongly. Sounds like a lot of hogwash to me if you drive aggressively with even 89 octane. How you drive affects the learning not the octane itself. I've never heard pinging driving 89 octane since I got the car and noone else has said differently here. I'll go back to 89 and see if I hear it then.
