injen email 5/24/2005

I am pasting an e-mail I got today from RNT@INJEN.COM

"We offer the IS2030 intake for the 04 Solara 3.3l V-6 but it wont fit the 05-06 because of the new carbon elements in the air box which is a CARB issue."

o.k. Now I am really confused...Does this sound like the right product for the 2004 Solara V6 (3.3 litre)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

It looks like the IS2030 has a different MAF flange. (The old style where the bolts are on the sides instead of opposite corners. ) I can't tell from this pic though.

Image

Heck, so long as the flange ID is correct and there's enough material to drill and tap new holes, I might just order it anyway! I'm tired of this pussyfooting around CARB.

As for the catalog issue: Atleast release the part for the non-carbon filter vehicles. Then spread the word through the forums, that it will work on all of the Gen2s.

Ok, I'll step down from the soapbox.
Thus endith thy sermon.

Can't wait for the cpe? Without tuning you'll never get power from that thing. Regardless of what Ingen said on Junes dyno, cp-e hooked up a 3" w/o conversion and got 0HP. With conversion/no tuning they got .5HP. That was in shop, not trying to sell anything so I have to go with them. It might sound good though.

Speaking of soap boxes... Ingen released the Tc intake as "off-road" to get around the CARB issue. They didn't do it for Solara for a reason. (see above... no power) That's my guess anyway.

LOL - No doubt cp-e is the way to go.

I was under the impression that it may be some time before CP-E would be ready. I saw your last posts and that's great news. After all the heartache from the Injen fiasco, I think we're all pretty desperate.

As you know, my situation is a little different from most. My lease ends just in time for the release of the Gen 2.5. I'll move over what mods I can from this car to the next but it appears the intake will be slightly different. ( I'm planning to purchase the Gen2.5 after it comes off the lease, so any mods I make are definately for the long haul.)

I've got a vested interest in helping cp-e get a kit going for the 3.5L, so I'll wait and make the $500+ investment then.

In the mean time, I may fabricate or purchase an inexpensive intake pipe just so I can get the nice intake sound. Without the HP gains, I'll be just be chasing your tail down the drag strip. :-) I'll get 'ya back with the Gen 2.5 though. (Muhaha)

No you won't. You're a coupe. You'll slowly pull away until the high end.

CPE is claiming 8-10 on the 3.5" intake. Not as much as Injen claimed on their 3". They have magic pipes in CA. When I get the dyno charts I'll go through what the chip does again and all the stats in one big review. I like the noise, but still want some new horses.

I think all these INTAKE threads are getting confused. I lost count how many are currently going.

I can see having one for the Gen 2 Injen discussion that started last year and a second one for CP-e discussions.

Can one of the mods lock the other Injen threads and redirect them to the original Injen thread?

That's about the same as Injen. Dynoed at 10-11hp with max about 14hp. You'll never feel 1-2 hp difference.

That's what Injen said the 3" added without a chip. CPE got abou thte same with 3.5" and tuned. Guess it doesn't matter since you can't buy the 3". But if it were a battle for my money, I'd have some questions about those dyno results.

I concur on the consolidation of threads. Pick one for Injen legacy info (the one w/ 4000 views) and I'll ask someone to lock the cp-e proto thread once we have the final product stats so we can start a fresh one with all the info at the top. We can use that for install chatter and what not. I'm gettin' dizzy answering intake Qs on three threads.
