CP-e MAFci intake [Pics Update 6/28]

Yup. I'm stock everything else. The audio doesn't do the grunt part justice. 3.5" pipe. Injen was 3? Anyway... they have no desires to CARB. (or at least wouldn't hold production).

down2thec wrote:Picked up the car but still compiling data, vid, etc. Sorry for the delay. For now I'll give you what I absolutely know. It looks great and sounds incredible! The 3.5" pipe grunts, growls, and screams. I put together a quick hack job MP3 to back that up.

This is from inside a closed convertible. MichaelT says it sounds more wicked from outside but I haven't heard that.

The sound starts with a full open run 1st to third gear. I like the 2000 to 3000 grunts so I put that after. That's just me playing. 8) It only sings when you're on the gas/under load. Full details soon.
CPe Intake Sound

I'll post a pic tomorrow but then I want to have all the info before putting into a "review" form. Thanks for the patience!

Congrats on the awesome intake sound. (It sounds a whole lot better on your mp3 than it did over the phone this weekend!) It really puts my TRD exhaust to shame. I can't wait to hear the combination of them both.

Look forward to a first hand viewing at the July meet.

Did you get that shift kit installed? The shifts on your sound clip didn't seem faster than stock. Other than that I can't wait to get that intake. Sounds like someone put a G35 motor under the hood.

Only third gear is tweaked via the solenoid/valve body. The rest they rolled back since I live far away and they couldn't reverse it if I didn't like it. (they should have asked me.) You can hear/see on the vid that 1-2 is much slower than 2-3. Full story on the shift kit status will come soon in a separate thread. Short answer... not gonna happen for at least 6 months. But that's very perceptive of you! NIce tag!

Nice!!!
So are these for both the 4 banger and 6 cyl? So, if they don't CARB, they I can't drive with it here in Cali, or is it one of those, "don't get caught with it" type things?

They're finishing up the instructions this week with pretty color pics. Once I have them I'll be able to let you know how long it would be to revert to stock if you're scared of dealers being dinks about the warranty. Josh ballparked it as one hours work to put the airbox back it and switch the harnesses. Shouldn't be any wiring reroutes after the initial install.

And it only voids a warranty if they can prove that the intake was the cause of the failure. I'm worried they'll stretch to make that connection so I plan to not take her in for major service with the pipe in place. (Like the lag TSB)

Any dealership folk out there know if they log mods that they find when doing routine service? It would be nice to just roll back the mod if something breaks.

And I'm looking to get some "from the next car" audio/video if the neighbor kid will do some camera man work for me. Top down gets alot of wind noise.

Not 100% on that one but I thought CARB was only a requirement if your business is in CA. Can't sell without cert. you can buy and run whatever you want as long as you pass any EPA requirement. With the ci chip, there will be no codes in your ECU so you should be good. Any SoCalLaras to back me up? And it's only for the 3.3l. If things go well cp-e might take a shot at the I4.

A couple features to point out here...
1. This is the proto, welded and painted not the mandril bended powdercoated pipe.
2. That's a big pipe!
3. As DocJohn pointed out, it really opens up the engine bay for getting to things.
4. Most pipes would just weld nipples on for the hose fittings. Note the nipple block, computer designed and machined in shop.
5. Bottom of the mount they mounted the AIC (I think... the DocJohn valve). Could have removed it but that would leave a code in the ECU. cp-e doesn't like codes.
6. Spending time with the Solara they learned she's a classy ride. So no sticker for the final product. They're planning a lazer etched mount.
7. Filter is by an ex-K&N engineer that improved durability and airflow. This thing actually breathes and filters better when dirty! Nine layer cotton vs. seven layer on K&N.
8. Just look at the size of that pipe!!! :o
9. Gonna be hard to rip off These pics! Sell that on ebay.

By the end of the week (targeting Wed.) they will give me dyno charts, pricing, schedule of production and preorder info. So count your pennies. Audio, Visual, and performance bling all in one!

hey down2thec, what ever happened to you rusting exhaust? You get a new one or repair it? I was wondering if you still had that it might be restraining your car from optimal output.

Great news! You should look into a custom y-pipe and exhaust (and possibly headers). Open that baby up!!! 8)

Replaced. it's the design of our headers (says cpe). I checked the vids and the intake trimmed 1.5 sec off my 0-60. Very non-scientific but there it is. Now to get the TSB done and I'm set.

Yep, I noticed that cp-e left VSV #3 in place and wired even though its doing nothing with the intake pipe installed (or after my vacuum mod) as to do otherwise would trigger a fault code in the ECU and cause a "Check Engine" light warning.

I gotta get me one of these pipes! :D

Ok, put me down for the group buy.
What's the estimated time of arrival from pre-order date to purchase to installed in my car?
