is it covered by the extended powertrain warranty

Postby angelo » Wed Jun 22, 2005 5:05 am

I have a 04 V6 SLE, but I am out of the initial bumper-to-bumper warranty. Should the TSB be covered under the powertrain warranty?

Finally! And I just got the Stage One shift kit from cp-e. I'll have to ask if that changes anything or if I should still just get the reflash.

FINALLY!!!!
I took my solara SLE sport in for the sunroof and lag tsbs yesterday and got my car back today. What a difference. My car is actually drivable now. I still hate the dealership though.
The thing is that in order to get my car fixed i had to make an informational package for the service writer. He tried to tell me that in order to get the tsb done my check engine light had to be on. I had to show him a copy of the tsb that showed that was not the case. So in spite of the service writer my lag is now fixed.
The sunroof parts are on "national backorder" which sounds very serious no? lol
Now if only i could have the thump in the rear fixed i would be in heaven.
Im starting to love my car again.

I was scheduled to go in today but changed it to next Monday. I gave them TC006-05. Does anyone have copies of both 006 and 007?

I'd like to carry it in since the service manager looked a little lost when I described the issue.

I took my car in today and they said they did not know about it but that they would check with Toyota's web page and it was there ( TC006-05 )
The petal response is much better. The car shifts much sooner.

I don't have a link to where the tsb is posted anywhere. The tsb just became avaiable on tues the 21st. The tsb # is TC006-05, I just happen to work for a dealer and did the flash myself. Just thought that I would through the info out there for everyone. I will see if I can post a copy of it here -- I'm not making any promises though. btw, it is covered under warranty for 80k or 96 months.

Great. Sounds awesome. If you email me the TSB, I will post it on my website and make a link to it on my thread for TSB's.

Great news.

Cablemn, I took my car in for the sunroof TSB also, and they said that they had to order the parts. So I guess we are in the same boat.

Thanks everyone

I went to the dealer with a printout of the TC003-05 lag TSB for the Camry with a 3MZ. The dealer looked up TSB's on his computer and found TC006-05. That TSB was applied and took over two hours to do. There is no TC007-05 as far as he could see. I saw the TC006-05 on his screen and it was identical to the TC003-05 except saying for the Solara (it came out on June 21 also).
He mentioned that I should use 91 octane from now on to prevent the timing from going back to what it was from pinging. Does that make sense that even though it is a learning ECU, lower octane would affect it that way? Regardless, I noticed more kick to the engine and feels like a gain in power. The dealers have the attitude that a TSB should be applied if they themselves deem it necessary. Go in and just push for it to be done like I did. I hadn't seen that much lag before but decided to do it to get the best responsiveness I could get.

I took my car in today and told them i had symptoms of gear hunting and hesitation in acceleration and that I wanted the TC006-05 be applied. The service tech guy was very nice. Even though he didn't know there was one out, they did their homework and found the TSB. So my advice is don't tell the dealer to do the TSB just because it is out; tell them your car is experiencing the problems outlined in the TSB and they will have no choice, but to do it.

Also, it took 2 hours for them to reprogram the ECM. I must say that my car is real responsive now. There is not one bit of hesitation at all.

Slingshot,
Use high octane gas in your SLE. The engine requires that for better performance, plus the TSB specifically says that high octane gas is required for optimum engine performance.

I know the TSB says that but I sure got fine performance tonight driving around with the cheapest 87 octane. As far as optimum performance, I'm not going to be involved in any racing anytime soon. I don't feel any hesitation at all anymore. My tires are now the big weak point as I'm accelerating around turns more and hear them squealing. I still don't believe there is a performance difference between octanes as I have never felt it and many magazines like Consumer Reports say there is no difference.

I agree you have to tell them you had problems as they didn't look too amenable to just applying the TSB. First, he said the lag was normal. The guy knew I meant business when he saw I had a printout and wasn't budging. Then when he found the TSB on the computer, there was no longer any caution on his part. He hadn't known about it.
