Disablin' DRL's didn't work

Disablin' DRL's didn't work

Postby SleeperSolara » Fri Jun 03, 2005 2:45 pm

Ok here's the deal.
I've read http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=8530 thread.
And also went to: http://www.legacytuning.com/DRL/DRLdisable.htm
And read the site, and tried the the diagram:Image
And took out the 23rd wire which is the black wire, from the bottom row from the left, wit the flat part of the "U" and taped the wire off wit electric tape.
But the DRL's are still turnin' on.
Which wire color is the one for the DRL??
I've takin' out the white wire wit the stripe, and that didn't work.
Also tried the red wit red stripe, and that didn't work either.
So anyone that has done this??
Which wire color is it??

I didn't cut or remove any wires when I disabled my DRL's.

All I did was unplug the sensor harness under the hood on the passenger side behind the strut tower brace. You can't miss the plug, only big gray plug in that location.

After I unplugged that, my day running lights were disabled...........they only turn on by themselves at night when its pitch black dark out.

........unless your looking to totally disconnect it where you have to turn it on at night...........

hope my two cents was of some help bro.

So did unplugging the gray wire harness work? It did for me.

I did the 23rd wite disconnect for my DRLs today and it worked just fine.

I guess I didn't make note of the fact that unplugging the grey plug does the same thing?

My question is this: does unplugging the grey plug by the firewall disable the night time sentinel lights?

Or do I have to do something else?

Nope for my 2000 the black wire near the ign for the DRL relay, is for the e-brake light on the dash.
Really don't want to unplug the grey plug under the hood cause dirt and shittee could get in there.
I know that i can tape it up but enigne bay would look unclean look

Actually I found out tonight that cuttign the 23rd wire disabled my nighttime automatics AND my DRL's.

I have a '99 SLE.

It worked for me so I'm happy, it took about an hour cause it so damn tight with space and penels poking you all over the place down there, plus I did it withotu removing the center dash part, which I would highly recommend to anyone planning on doing it. I just didn't know how to and didn't feel like doing it.

It was funny cause I had my battery disconnected and then when I wanted to put my seat down to lay backwards and upside down there was no power to it obviously so I did the whole thing in a reverse chair type position... I'm sure I looked alike a dumbass, but to me it was worth it to rid my beautiful car of those annoying automatic lights.

I just found out which one will work wit out unpluggin' the grey connector under the hood near the passenger side.
All you have to do is unplug the black lil relay in the "Relay & Fuses"; in front of the battery.
It should be the DRL Dim No. 4 relay.
That disabled the DRL while lookin' clean under the hood.
Cause when you take out the lil relay box thingy then puttin' the cover back on will cover it up. :D

For laughs, tried this, didn't work for me. In my car, the DRL Dim No. 4 relay was a reddish color, not black. Tried the red then black relays, couldn't get it to work. Anyone else get this to work?

What Gen you have??
Gen 1 there will be a box thingy in front of the battery.
Then you open that and will see the relay it will be really big, it on the left.
That should disable it.

As my sig indicates, I have a 2000 SLE, Gen 1 I think. I did find 2 relays in that "box thingy" in front of the battery, one reddish the other black, however, the DRL Dim No. 4 relay on the left was a reddish color, not black. Tried removing the red then black relay, still would not work. It did, however, disable my headlights. After examining the electrical wiring diagrams, I don't see how this could work. Maybe if I can post a picture/diagram of what I have. Anyone else get this to work or have the same configuration as I am talking about?

I'm a little confused as to why you would want to disconnect your DRL's..
