Warranty: Oil change

Warranty: Oil change

Postby Katherine » Wed Jun 15, 2005 11:52 am

Hi,

I got my second oil change done at a Valvoline place (I was on a road trip at the time, 800 miles from home, and realized I wouldn't make it back by the 3000 mile mark since the last oil change.. By the time I would get home, it would have been 4000 miles since the previous oil change. Maybe it would have been fine but I didn't want to chance it). I saved the paperwork, even though the Valvoline place didn't put the VIN in there.... I am just a little concerned that the dealership will give me a hard time next time I need warranty work. I know a lot of you do your own oil changes or get them done by someone other than Toyota... what is your experience with this? Thanks :)

Dude, RELAX...as long as you keep your record of an oil change, toyota will honor their warranty. Only time this could become an issue is when the valvoline place did something they weren't supposed to like over tight and strip the oildrain plug! As long as you do your oil changes and timely other maint its all good!

Read the manual. Toyota suggests every 5K miles, not 3K. So according to waranty standards, your well under the mark.

I thought it was 5000 miles until the first oil change, and then every 3000 after that? The dealership had me down for 3000 miles after my first one (at 4500 miles). I gotta look at the manual. If so, then I wasted my money. Thanks

Stealerships want to make money. There is no harm coming in every 3,000, but is unessary according to the manual. :D

it is every 5k miles, i've got a little bit less than 3,000 on mine but the sticker in the window says "next oil change 5,000" they're supposed to be better engines that can last longer between oil changes. also my sister has a BMW and that one's oil change is every 15,000 miles. (yes i said 15,000 miles)

Wow you guys and gals running your cars to 5k without changing oil are brave. Sorry, but take a look at your oil at 3k. It is dirty. Better engines or not, I would never risk leaving my oil go to 5k or worse yet 7500.
