I want some way to use my iPod that will give me better quality than an FM transmitter and a tape adapter. My Solara is totally stock...I've been reading about FM modulation, but I'd also like to see if there's some way to have a line input. I've seen articles on basically splicing the audio leads from the CD changer, but I have no interest in something so friggin' complicated. I have no problem removing the trim and head unit, but that tutorial called for cutting wires and soldering wires...too much

Which would be the easier solution? I'm also open to suggestions...hehe
I've looked into things like the iceLink, but I don't have that kinda money... :-?

Aftermarket HU w/ an aux input would make it a whole lot easier
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

Would an after market head unit be able to control my stock cd changer?

That's what I use now, but I'm not happy with the hissing and popping.

What are the specs on the stock JBL amp? I can't find them anywhere.

i want to know also. =)

edit: the new alpine headunits that control the ipod look really tempting. i have a gc to best buy so im considering splurging... seems a waste to not use the stock one though. still works... choices choices

The specs from the factory JBL system is rated at 200 WATTs (which probably transilates to 25 WATTs per channel at four corners of the vehicle). I think I found a kit that will work with your factory radio. This is a direct connection interface to the factory radio changer controls. The great thing about the product is that it charges your unit while its in use. The link is as follows:

Just from reading the specifications and features, it seems to function like the Pioneer CD-IB100 IPOD interface. I hope this helps out.

I've looked at these before, but I don't want to do something like this because I still want to be able to use the CD changer...

Actually you are better off bypassing the factory JBL amp if you are going to be using an upgraded aftermarket headunit with a built in amp.

You might still be able to use the factory CD changer, haven't had any experience with doing that myself though.

are you sure an after market radio would have more power than the on board amp? i find that very hard to believe.

ive been running different equiptment for a few years now and i would never ever use an internal hu amp unless i was going to run tweeters thats it

and even then it still may not be enough power.

i run alpine hu that boast the vdrive? internal amp. one of the best internal hu amp you can get and they are in my opinion worthless.

the stock jbl system in my 2000 solara which is getting replaced this weekend actually sound pretty good in relation to a hu amp.

i will bypass the amp first for shits and giggle and let you know the difference but i highly doubt the alpine internal amp will push harder than the stock amp

oh btw anyone know the colors so i can wire my own rca plug ins to the stock amp? i know you can buy the harness to run through the stock amp but why not just make it?

the tape adapter is all digital man.

if you're getting hissing/popping you have a terrible tape adapter or a terrible tape deck.
