Noises ... pretty loud like in 2nd gear, climate control?

hello all. i have a 1999 sle automatic completely stock.

my friend who has a 95 avalon was riding in my car last night. we were on the road and he mentioned how loud my car was when i was above 30mph or so... he said it sounded like i was in second gear but i wasnt and that his car didnt sound like that at all. i always thought it was road noise on my tires but he said it sounded like it was coming from the engine. should my stock car sound louder when its above 30mph/2500rpms? how quiet should it be? does this make sense?

also ... i guess i was just noticing sounds yesterday but i adjusted the digital climate control in the car and i heard some whirring sounds coming from the engine for the few seconds after. normal? i always have my music on pretty loud but now im paranoid that my car is going to die. :)

thanks!

Stock, the solara engine is fairly quiet with the intake resonators and exhaust throughout the RPM band, although obviously it will be louder at 6k than at idle. It's also quiet from a road noise and wind noise perspective. Perhaps a tire is out of balance, they are just plain noisy, or an exhaust leak has started (like me), just guesses though, need to be a little more specific.

Check under your seat. See if the slender tube under your seat is firmly attached to the two spherical rollers.

That may be the cause of the noise.
