2004 Silver SLE rusting

Went out this morning to add windshield wash fluid to my car. Opened up the hood, and all along that chrome trim piece, the hood is got a ton of rust on it. Its not on that chrome piece, but on the paint. I am not happy. When I bought the car in October, I paid extra money for the rust proofing, which apparantly is doing no good whatsoever. Pretty bad when a 2004 with 6,000 miles that is parked inside 99% of the time is starting to rust.

The car will be 2 years old in July, according to the build sticker. Maybe there is a reason why it sat on the dealer's lot for 1 1/2 years before someone bought it........

Damn.. I've never heard of such a thing with a Toyota. Get it back them ASAP and notify your bank also..

Here's the best part- I was told by Toyota customer service that it wont be covered under factory warranty, because the vehicle is almost 2 years old. I asked her what the deal was and she said that it is "normal wear and tear". WOW- bout said some stuff that I shouldn't have to her, but I didnt. I was also told that the paint protectant only protects certain parts of the vehicle.?! I'm afraid to say, but this one is going to be my LAST vehicle by Toyota. The screw job started on day one and just gets better and better. I can't wait to let the dealership hear my point of view in the morning.......

Wow, that's totally crazy. I thought the rust warranty was longer than that. Check your paperwork on it and give them hell. If you don't get the answers you want to hear, take it up to Toyota Customer support.

Wow!!! Rust already? Very odd. Hope you get it resolved bro. Sorry to hear of your mishap. I'm sorry to say that Toyota customer service SUCKS! I've always had to raise cain with everyone before anything happens. Usually talking with the GM will resolve the issue. They're always willing to talk to me and discuss and resolve the problem. This goes for all car dealerships as well.

Sorry to hear about your rust problem. Yes, Toyota service and customer relations sure does suck, which is why I had to shell out $380 to have an excellent private mechanic finally fix my left drift / alignment problems.

If possible, please post a photo of your rust area. I would like to see exactly what your dealing with.

rust on brake rotors?

that's pretty normal. it goes away after you drive a bit.

it scared the heck outta me too... I got it a month after I drove the car out of the dealership.

I got rust on my rotors too. It's even worse on the calipers.

My rotors look like @ss too, and I was forced to paint my calipers recently.

Rust on rotors is normal!
Rust spots on initial part of hood+bumper spots can be classified as normal wear and tear. It means you have been following the cars too closely and they have hit your front side with minute pebbles. I'm guessing you have grain like rust spots in your front bumper and lower side of hte hood (like myself). A little claybar and wax+polish is minimize the appreance of this. Buy a clear bra protection (or just buy a bra). Sad to say this..but unless you buy protection, your going to do the same damage to any vehicle. Not all my vehicles have these spots (only the one' i drive on highways do); i've taken this issue to toyota and was told it was my fault (which i know it is). Unless your talking of rust by the door jam's and welding points (under the weatherstipping like mazda6' problems..your not going to get too much with toyota corporate). GL eithercase!

The rust is on the bottom side of the hood- where the chrome strip meets the hood on the bottom side (the side that faces the engine). The rust is pretty good sized bubbles on the metal- it wont rub off. Was on hold with Toyota service dept/service manager for 4 hours on my cell phone and nobody came back. This is definately the LAST toyota I ever own. When I call to make a service appt for my Grand Am, I am on hold for no longer than 2 mins. With 4 diff toyota dealerships, it averages 45 mins to an hour before you get service. Absolutely ridiculous.

Hey Guy's I hate to burst all your bubbles about this rust issue but if you read up some you would see that we are covered for rust for 5 years but there is always a catch! The rust like all other car companies state MUST come from the inside out. NOT form the surface in. So if you see bubbles or something from under your paint well you have a claim, but if it's from the outside in it's your own damn fault. Get it buffed or something cause it will spead and yes for rustproofing it is put in all the propper places that matter. For a hood our hood is not hollow on the inside(cause that is where they would spray it) and if they sprayed it on the surface (after a while it would collect dust and other crap) you would complain as well the the rustproofing made your car dirty. So Please read your manual's because you have defenses for your claims as long as they fall within toyota's warranty. That particluar claim would not work so get it fixed as fast as you can so it won't spread. Oh and rotor rust is normal more so on humid day's where ever you park your car. It will all come off after some braking is applied.
