6/27/05 - Picked up the car but still compiling data, vid, etc. Sorry for the delay. For now I'll give you what I absolutely know. It looks great and sounds incredible! The 3.5" pipe grunts, growls, and screams. I put together a quick hack job MP3 to back that up.

This is from inside a closed convertible. Starts with a full open run 1st to third gear. I like the 2000 to 3000 grunts so I put that after. That's just me playing. 8) It only sings when you're on the gas/under load. Full details soon.

Latest news: CP-e is going through with the project! They didn't get what they did for Mazda so they went to a 3.5" pipe and had to dance with the ECU's rich mixture. When they leaned her out too much she stopped making power. They found a good balance that they believe is worth producing. He was in the car so final stats are forthcoming, but he said that despite a low peak HP improvement, the boost is sustained across the power band, making it a good overall bump. Also the cost will be less than the Mazda since due to no requirement for a heat shield, less intricate pipe bends, etc. They'll be sending me home with the proto and replacing with aluminum via mail so the KY guys will see that, and the final pipe will be in by the IL meet.

It looks like the final numbers will be below the Ingen proto. Considering cp-e is actually tuning with their chip I have to think the Ingen dyno was off. When cp-e stubbed in the the pipe without the tuning, it didn't get the 10-11 that Ingen claimed. But they do a certified dyno without any engine tricks (icing and what not). Anyway, they want one more sesion on the dyno with the stage II proto so then we'll get some numbers. Guess it doesn't matter much since you can't buy an Ingen.

Side note: He looked closer at the headers and believes the design leaves HUGE room for improvement. Apparently for space considerations they squeeze down two pipe something awful instead of merging. He thinks that's the reason for our flat dyno curve... headers are the choke point limiting the power. If the intake support is good, they'll be looking at that next.

Sorry for the novel... I'm just jazzed about seeing my car in two weeks!

Update: The car's been on the dyno and they found that our mixture is extremely rich meaning that there's major potential for finding new horses hiding in our engine!

Sidenote: they looked at the Tranny and are even more eager for a shift kit. They think a mechanical solution for shifting is possible meaning bye-bye lag!

Thanks for the great news update bro.

Perhaps this will be the breaking point in performance for the Gen 2s.

Hey guys. I picked her up yesterday and I'm heading home tomorrow. Found some wireless at Panera and thought I'd put in the teaser. I don't have all my cables and such so no pics until I'm home.

For now, I can say that you'll be very pleased. The performance numbers are coming but the look is awesome with the 3.5". I have a painted proto in and that looks good.

Hard to judge the power since I've been driving a 3liter 4Runner for two months. We'll get it head to head with a stock soon to get a street dyno. There's more wheel spin but not crazy outtacontrol type. Stock tires can stay.

But let me tell you... the first time I punched it a bit, this sound came from the hood :o . Sweet. I'm in heaven! More details to come.

Congratulation on your ride. It sounds like it was worth the several weeks you've been without your baby! I can't wait to see / hear it in July!

Have a safe journey back to Chicago.

Congrats on the prototype bro. Mad props for going thru with this. Sounds great over the phone and I'm sure it'll sound even better in person. Can't wait to see it.

He's stopping in Lexington, KY first...for our mini solara meet. The response on TN has been very minimal, so I'm not sure if any of them plan on coming.

Anyhow, drive safe Michael and call me when your close to the area. Perhaps we can lunch/dinner at Cracker Barrel?

I wasn't able to make it to the Lexington meet, but later that day down2thec was able to stop by my house on his way through Louisville. I got to see and HEAR the CP-E intake for myself and got a test ride with the new mod. The CP-E looks and sounds GREAT!! I was very impressed with the fit and finish of the workmanship of the prototype. The production version will even look better, but I'll let down2thec tell you about this when he posts pics, test and dyno results.
All I can say is this is a "must have" mod for me and I'm adding my name to the pre-production order list as soon as I can.
Thanks again to down2thec for stopping by and giving me a first look at this new mod.

I'll post a pic tomorrow but then I want to have all the info before putting into a "review" form. Thanks for the patience!

Damn, that sounds sweet!!! It sounds like it has a little more grunt then the Injen SRI on June's ride. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? It doesn't sound like it, it sounds like all intake. I can't wait to see some pics. I hope this will go into production and not stall like Injen...
