ouch... I didn't know the SOLARA was riveted too x_x

I guess Toyota officials saw all the Gen 1/1.5 w/o badges and riveted in because they thought we were getting jacked... LOL

For me personally, everywhere I go, I get a lot of good feedback from people I meet saying how good the Solara looks. They are really interested when they see it's a Toyota. (Translate: maybe they can afford it too!) The general impression is damnn! Good job Toyota.

If it's badged as a Lexus, there are certain assumptions made about your car. They look for something wrong to prove Lexus is not as good as the Big 3 vehicles. It's a Toyota, it's a great car. Who give's a rat's butt what they think?

As for my ride, my plans are to debadge completely. I like to keep them guessing. But when I'm asked, I'll proudly say it's a Toyota.

Here's my viewpoint on the quality difference:

Here's where the difference between Lexus and Toyota kicks in. When a vehicle is common between Lexus and Toyota, the quality requirements and tolerances for them are tighter than that of the regular Toyota. Example: Permissable interior fit gaps for a Toyota would be a max of 2mm. The permissable gap for Lexus is 0.5mm. For us, Toyota parts have a quality target of no more than 50 defective parts per million (ppm). The same type of parts that go on a Lexus have a quality target of less than 15ppm. (Again, if this part is used on Lexus and Toyota, then both vehicles' parts are held to 15ppm.)

I know they are assembled in the same plant but I always thought the Lexus exports always get a few extra quality inspections here and there (pre factory out, harbor in inspection, harbor arrival inspection, PDI) while the domestic Japan models only get pre-factory out and PDI... iono

LOL - I promise not to submit then re-edit again. (Ha,ha)

Yes, you're right. Lexus exports are handled very carefully. (Multiple inspections at factory, port and dealers.)

As for the difference between the Land Cruiser and a LX470, I see it as cosmetic, accessories and the forementioned Lexus handling. The $13K difference really is a steal. You'll recoop that in resale value alone.

If you (SolaraGirlie) want to put Lexus badges on the Solara, go for it. It's like painting black and white stripes on a Clydesdale Horse and calling it a Zebra. IMO: The Solara is cool on its own merit. Debadging is even more cool. Pretending to be something it's not is kind of sad to see.

Thats the last thing I want to see, a Lexus badge on a Toyota Solara SE. An SE for crying out loud that doesn't even have leather seats.

Second, a luxury car doesn't have a name (not anymore nowadays) they are numbers and letters. Its the Toyota Soarer, not the Lexus Soarer.

This thread is so wrong on so many levels, just shave the blasted thing off if you don't like the badge. Are we Honda ricers now?

There are no lame ideas.. Say what you want.. LOL Im not trying to make the solara somethings its not... LOL its a something i want on my car simple as that.. People who assume im only doing it just cuzz im ashamed of what i driver is stupid.. I just want to make mine look different.. If lexus made a big body coupe i would prefer it over the solara.. Since all they have is the small sc... I will get solara.. I like big body coupes... i think toyota has the nicest look out of most coupes today.. its luxury qualities in my eye are very sufficient for the price that you pay...

Whatever its kind of stupid how people get all routy about someone wanting to do something different... thats wrong with most people today.. they try to assume why someone is doing something and hate on the ideas when actually they have no idea why the person is doing it.. badged or debadged or rebadged who cares.. not your cup of tea what I do to my stuff say you dont like it and dont give people lip about how they are doing their own stuff......
...the whole lexus badge was just a thought.. i plan on leaving my sle and toyota badges on...

and as for

little kids
ex-honda kiddies
rice boys in the making

im neither of the three I like big body rides and really care less for speed..... I got my own style of how i want my car... As does everyone else...

Thats like mexicans and blacks getting mad at white people for getting tans so they can look more like them.. LOL they care less of all these tanners out here trying to achieve brown skin.. i mean this is stupid... let them do what they want... lol laff at it if you dont like and move on..

From 20 yards Michael T. can name a rim, quote the shop it came from, the month it was produced and what the shop steward had for lunch that day. :D

Here's some ammo for the badging bitch-fest. Ran across this on the way to work. Crappy pic but the ride looked sweet. The Mazda-ish spoiler made it a double-take before I saw it was a G1.5. The tail lights made it a sure thing. Just one lone cowboy hat in the middle. (and some odd sparkly thing on the gas door... could've done w/o that.) So anyone claim it? Rt. 41 South, 0815 this morning, exiting at Washington.
