SLE w/SE Body Kit?

SLE w/SE Body Kit?

Postby CornerCarver » Sun May 01, 2005 5:25 pm

Hi there!

I'm a new user to this forum. First off, I want to say all of you have very sweet rides.

I am soon going to be buying a Gen 2 Solara, but I cannot decide on SE or SLE. I really like the idea of the creature comforts in the SLE (the leather, etc), but absolutely love the OEM skirt package on the SE.

Is it possible just to buy the SE's skirt package somewhere, and attach them onto the SLE?

Thanks,
CC

As far as I know, Toyota doesn't sell the kits right now. Maybe sometime in the future??? Even then, it'll probably be some big $$$$!

BTW, don't forget to hit up the Introductions... :D

Welcome Carver!

Toyota will sell the individual pieces for the SE ground effects, but it's insanely priced. :o

My recommendation, become best friends with the parts manager at a Toyota dealer so you can get a discount. If that does not work, might I recommend extortion or bribery.

There's one aftermarket kit out there, but it's not very well liked.

OK, this subject i am very familiar with.
I felt just like you when i was buying mine and i ultimately decided on the SLE for the optional equiptment. You just cant get the heated seats, climate control and JBL enhanced sound system in the se. I also REALLY wanted the self dimming side view and rear view mirrors. All those options outweighed the body kit which i THOUGHT would be easy enough to get after i bought the car and i would slap that on as well as the upgraded suspension parts. I didnt realize how difficult it would be to do.
You can order the kit through one of our members, JackassJeff. He had posted that he could get the kit for $1800.00 unpainted. Then you will have to get it installed which isnt something the average joe can do. Both the front and rear bumper covers have to be removed and slots need to be cut into them for the parts to fit in and then they are held in by clips.
If you do get the kit i can give you information on how this is installed.
So the cost adds up. $1800 for the kit, $300-$400 for paint, and $200-$250 for installation, youre looking at about $2500. Not to mention the suspension work. I got lucky and found a kit for my SLE that was already painted for $1000. I also found SE springs for $30 on ebay and now im waiting for some aftermarket struts. And i also went for the rear swaybar also purchased on ebay for $125.
I'm still way more happy that i got the SLE because you wouldnt be able to add the other options to the SE. Now that you know this i hope it helps you make a better informed decision about which one to buy. If you need more help on the subject PM me and i'll be glad to elaborate.

I regret not buying the SLE looking back. I thought I would be able to find the add ons later for much cheaper than the dealer had them for. Little did I know, there is not much of a market for parts for these cars. :(

I've seen some SLE with bodykits locally. Not sure if that was an option. I believe someone from the forum mentioned that the bodykit are being offerred to SLE models. Can't remember who.

Maybe a dealership is doing different things to boost sales...If that's the case, all dealerships should do this!!!!

I don't understand why Toyota doesn't option their cars better. I basically had the same dilemma as cablemn did when I bought my SLE. I would have definitely paid for a Sport suspension option if it was available, and probably an SE body kit option depending on the price. I find these manufacturer’s “option packages” to be really frustrating and not well thought out.

I liked it better in the “good old days” when you bought a new Ford or GM and you could basically go down the option list with the dealer and pick and mix just about any available options you wanted.

i guess toyota doens't release all those stuff to public is beacuse toyota doesn't want ppl mass around with cars...
i guess not even stickers on the car...
toyota is really against moding to maintain the car reputaion.

anyway, i will go for SLE, cause i think comfortable is more important than looking.

WOW, I just went to the Toyota website and built a 2006 car and created an ebrochure and saw the $995 ground effects kit installed option! I wonder if they will let 2004 and 2005 car owners but them. That's not a bad price at all. I'm going to ask my dealer. Can anyone else do the same?

Oh, the ebrochure lists the Door sill enhancements at $129 not $149.

You should be able to. I'd like to get it and it makes you wonder how much it costs w/o install and i'm sure they can quote that too, since thats usually a nice chunk alone.

You are right on the door sill enhancements, I misquoted it. Those are a nice touch and would really impress whoever enters the passenger door :)

I think I might have to get those too.
