I was doing some research on the 2004 solara pace car used in the Long Beach Gran prix and noticed that they have bilstiens listed as the stut type. how could this be? I thought that there were no aftermarket struts for our cars? Anyone able to shed light on this topic?

There's a difference between sponsorship and brag stickers.

I believe in this case, Toyota is the big dog sponsor so they get to establish the pace car to be used. The stickers on the car reflect other sponsors for the race. Not necessarily parts available for that car.

I checked Bilstein's site, and I didn't see anything for the Solara.

I'm not so sure of that. I found a page that listed the components used in the car, i wasnt going by a sponsors sticker on the car. There was a contact email listed on that page so i sent an email to Rick_L._Hesterberg@mail.tmmna.com and asked him directly. I'm waiting for a reply.

The pace cars do in fact utilize Bilstein components for the suspension; however, they are far from a replacement application to be found in their catalog.

The suspension on each vehicle was designed and custom fabricated by a friend at Toyota Motorsports. The Solaras run with adjustable coil-over suspension designed to work in conjunction with their stiffened chassis'. Although this modification made the vehicle very predictable, very responsive and very VERY V E R Y fun to drive, the ride was nothing less than a Black Knight skateboard.

Hmmm... might have just dated myself with that one...

No worries, Phreakd... on the upside of things, it seems that most of the major aftermarket suspension manufacturers are really taking a look at the Gen 2 Solara for product application. How long and when the first one out will be, I have no clue.

Seems like Tein may just be the first out for a true high performance coil-over application for the ride...
