Question about painted calipers........

Question about painted calipers........

Postby mattyboyl » Mon Apr 11, 2005 6:58 am

I painted my calipers over the weekend. I'm getting TRD logos and want to seal that logo under a clear coat of some kind. Anyone know of a product I can use? I bought lacquer, but I'm not sure how that will react to heat from the brakes. Any help would be appreciated.

Good luck on that! I too bought the caliper paint this weekend and started wondering if there is some way to put the logo on. I wouldn't trust a sticker though.

Instead, what I'm planning to do is carefully cut out a template of the logo. Paint the caliper first. (I'm using Red to match the car.) Then I will use black caliper paint and spray the logo onto the caliper. Tape the template down and apply the black in several light coats. Running or dripping will ruin the whole effect.

Post up pictures when you do it. I'm headed off to Japan tomorrow so I won't be able to test my theory for a couple weeks.

According to what I read, lacquer is in the paint. Since I applied 5 coats onto the caliper, I will attempt this feat and let you know. I will research this alittle further and hope to get some feedback before attempting this.

There are caliper decals (that resist hear and brake dust). Make sure you use the right decal/sticker. Also, there was a dude who was selling his IS300 rims here a year ago, he said he used clearcoat on his caliperdecals to keep them clean...i guess search the forsale sections and seek him out???
