TSB for sunroof actually works!!! I have proof....

I, like many others, here have had that terrible rubbing sound when opening and shutting the sunroof. Toyota has replaced the motor and tracks with no success. With the TSB, it calls for replacing the sunroof glass. I know what you're thinking. I figured, what do I have to lose? It probably won't work, but I need an inspection anyway. So they performed the TSB. The car was sitting out in the sun waiting for me to pick it up. I get in and expect to hear the noise, and let me tell you, I was shocked! The sunroof was quieter than ever. Very smooth and I couldn't hear a sound. It was very smooth, the way it should of been brand new! I was still alittle pessimistic and tried again later and again today at differnt times a day because I've never gone a full day wityhout hearing it. This is solution does work somehow. Now, a solution for thos edamn rattles and we'll be good.

Actually, I knew about the TSB prior. SO when I went in, I informed them of the problem and they just told me they were replacing the sunroof glass. So, they were aware, but all Toyota's aren't the same. Come in prepared.

What is the TSB number for the sun roof problem?

Postby Joel » Sat Nov 13, 2004 8:13 pm

Do you have the TSB number for the sun roof problem? I did not see it in the list at Alldata (I have the 2004, SLE, V6). I have had my Solara in the shop twice for the problem, with no success in getting it fixed.

Thanks!

I found out there are 2 TSB's for the sunroof noise, the one reference on here, calls for replacing the sunroof glass. which my dealership did and the noise went away for about 2 weeks and then came back. The 2nd TSB (Number: NV004-05) calls for replacing the Cable Sub-assembly, Sliding Roof Drive (Part No: 63205-0E010) this is what acutally fixes it. So have your service advisor pull up this TSB and do it on the car and you will not have any more problems, be prepared to leave the car for the day, as they have to take off the headliner and take out the sunroof motor to replace the cable assembly. My dealership gave me a loner car for the day, ask yours they might do that for you also. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I had the sunroof replaced with the glass panel also. Thanks for 2nd TSB for Cable Sub-assembly. Hopefully this will fix it once and for all.
