Sunroof vibrations

Sunroof vibrations

Postby MikeATL » Fri Apr 08, 2005 11:29 am

Maybe this has been posted before, blah blah blah...

Anyway, whenever i have the windows down and the roof open, i get this really loud, pretty violent (the rear view mirror is going nuts) vibrations. It usually happens right around 50mph. I think it must be the air getting trapped between the glass and the roof. Is this common, and with the exception of putting that nasty plastic wind deflector thingy on my roof, is there anything i can do about it??

TSB for sunroof actually works!!! I have proof....

Perhaps this is a different scenario then the links above.

Well...actually...I think I know what you're talking about. I just experienced it the other day. Let me see if this is what you're experiencing.

I was driving more than 60 mph and had the sunroof all the way back, because if you press it to auto back/open; there's still a lil' amounth that can be opened and you have to press the open again for it to go back.

Any how, started shaking and making loud wind noise. This is the first time I've experienced this. Have not experienced it or noticed it again. It was pretty windy outside and that's the only thing I could think of. But at the time, when I put the sunroof back a lil bit, it was okay.

Thanks for the reply michael.

btw: i got a 2005 SLE, so im not sure those TSBs apply to me.

I open the sun roof buy pressing open once and letting go. With the windows down and the sun roof open like that, when i get going approx. 47-53 mph, there is a quite violent (the rear view mirror is almost useless, like i got 2 18" subs in the trunk, which i dont!) vibration between the windshield and the roof. It stops if i go faster or slower that that. This happens consistantly. I find that if i pull down the built in wind deflector that comes up with the roof is down, the vibrations stop, so i think that has something to do with it, as there is not much else up there to cause the vibrations that i am having. I am due for an oil change soon so when i go in i will let them know. Any recommendations on how to handle it? I dont want them to just blow me off, tell me its not covered under warranty, or tell me they dont see anything wrong. Should i tell them I want someone to take a ride with me so they can hear it? If they tell me they need to keep it, will they definately give me a loaner while its being fixed?

Defly do what you said...get a shop service manager to ride with you if you can. He will know exactly what to report to his service techs.

GL and keep us posted,
