Help HID Installation

Postby qhoc0010 » Wed Mar 30, 2005 12:16 pm

I just got a McCulloch HID Kit for my Solara 05.
I follow the instruction here:
http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/brightli ... ation.html

I only work on one side at the time. This is the driver side.

So I connect the ignitor connectors (same color together):

I also connect the other end of the ballast to factory connectors:

(This is just temporary to see whether it works)

This is the whole picture:

I turned on the light. The old passenger light worked, but the new HID on driver side was not on.
I didn't know what I did wrong. So I tried to turn the wires 180 degree like this:

It is still not working. I know for sure I put white to white and black to red

Can someone tell me what went wrong?

I've read that it doesn't matter which side goes to which (white/black spades). Did you try the other HID bulb to see if it works?

I pushed it in as far as I can. Does it suppose to "click"?

nope, no click since there's no connector.

that's basically what I did when I installed mine. since the connector didn't fit, i just put the spades in and taped them up with electrical tape.

the only other idea i have is, are you sure the headlights are turned on, and not just the DRL's? (yeah, i know, stupid idea)

Yes, as I said above. I just install one side to test. So when I turned on the light, the old headlight was ON but not the HID light. What other problem it could be?

One more thing, cklinh, when you got your HID Bulb, was there a "gray spot" side the bulb? I saw those on both of them before I installed. So there may be a small chance that the bulbs blew.

Gray spot _inside_ the bulb? I don't think so. I did have a gray/black spot on the outside of a bulb... but that didn't affect them turning on.

I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't work... although I did install both at the same time... would installing only one at a time cause problems? (probably not, just brainstorming)

Um... try putting the stock bulb back in to make sure the harness hasn't fried?

Yeah, I did that too. I put everything back and they all work. So the HID Kit messed up or something else.

I got it to work after switching the wires.
How do you guys mount the ballast? Can I see some pics?

One thing I know tonight is that the position of the black and white spade matters...I install first one of the ballast and try to make it work...nada...I thought it was the bulb...so I try the other one on the other side it was working fine. Then I try the "working" bulb with the first ballast...nothing again !! I made lot of test switching ballast from each side. Everytime I use the first ballast it was not working. I was to conclude that the ballast was scrap before making a last test. I connected the working ballast on the right side of the car and then it worked !! I compare the wire and the working one has the black wire at left when the pin is up on the 2 plastic connector provided within the kit. I check the non-working one it was the opposite. I restest the "non-working" by twisting the connector to simulate that the black is on left when the pin is up...then it worked !!!!

I don't know if that happened to others but I'm happy that I solve the problem...I will install it tomorrow !! :D Do you guys have drilled holes to screw it or you just using tie-rap ??
