First Oil Change- Dealership or Other?

Postby Katherine » Sat Mar 12, 2005 12:05 pm

OK, I went today... Had it done, $80, man!!!!!!!!!!!! Oil change (used a $24.95 coupon off their website) plus 4 tire rotation/balance ($49.99). Geez.

I got like 4 "free oil change" coupons (they were business cards with the manager's name signed on the back, dunno if that is bogus or not) only because when I went to pick up the car in August I had a huge fight with them because they told me I didn't have to finance through Toyota but when I went to pick up the car they said there was a "mistake" (even though my buyer's order was written up as a CASH purchase) and the rate they wanted to charge me was much higher than my Capital One financing... Yeah so we argued for like 3 hours and they were throwing free stuff at me left and right, and then ended up lowering the price of the car... it was awful. :-? This dealership is like 45 minutes away, though, so I just said screw it and got it done at a closer dealership.

Thanks for all the advice and postings

you should have chage it by yourself. it is very easy to change the oil with solara and you can use better oil. $80 --> i can buy alsmost 20 cans of mobil 1 synthetic from costco...

i changed oil for my gf's gen2 with synthetic, the oil still very clean after 5000 miles.

Buy a nice jack, and a compressor, it would be the sweetest $300 you will spend; for life you can rotate your tires FREE!

Just buy a few cases of mobil 1 synthetic from your local costco or kmart. Then look through a local paper for a shop with an oil change special for $9.95. Go down there with your own oil and have them change it. I've never been refused to use my own oil and filter. I get a synthetic oil change for total cost of about $38.00 and i stay nice and clean.
I used to do my own oil changes until i spilled dirty oil on my driveway. Not to mention having to dispose of the old oil which is a royal pain in the ass. Always taking a chance that youre gonna spill the stuff in the car driving it over to a station to get rid of it. $30 or $40 is a friggin bargain. Plus using synthetic you dont have to change it as often.

I'm glad that you guys posted this. I took my car to the dealership for the first 2-3 oil changes, but have since started doing my own. I HATE the local dealership, they are some worthless morons. All they ever do is flirt with me and tell me that my car is fine rather than fixing my problem. Anyway, I now use K&N oil filters and castrol, and it costs me about $20 to do it myself. I know it's done right, but for the life of me could not get rid of that stupid maint. light. I'm gonna reset it today. Once again, you guys rock!

Hi Jewls. I dont really want to flirt but now youve piqued my curiosity as to what you look like. Would it be so terrible of me to request a pic of you and your car so the board may be witness to your beauty?

ha you guys are funny.

First off, I tried the trip/on method, and I still have a maint. light on. I even tried holding it down for 30 seconds, and it still didn't work. :(

As far as the pic, let me see what I can do. I used to have my picture in my avatar, but took it down.
