How much can you travel once the Fuel sign comes on?

Does anyone know how many miles you can go once the fuel sign comes on? I know you can display the range in the dash but yesterday my range was "0" and i was able to drive about 1/2 mile still to the gas station...:( I guess I just made it! Normally I fill up way before the light ever comes up...I was stuck in traffic and had no choice but to try and make it to the nearest gas station. Just glad I made it.

Depends on how hard you normall gas. But I can get it up to 50miles once the range meter hit 0. Our tanks are 18.5 gallons, so when you gas you should know how much there was left in ur tank when the range hit 0. Usually, I get 21mpg. So, I think if I really try, I can go 60miles when range meter goes 0. But, I don't want to stop in the middle of the road.

WOw thanks for the info!

I wonder why the made it like that. Just dont make sense.. I was going frantic looking for a gas station...well know I know, but just to be on the safe side I'll gas up before I head for a trip. Also I noticed my gas bill read ~15.455 gallons for full fill-up.

So you still have 60 miles to go before you are empty. I think the reason they want you to gas before its really low because at different slopes of the road, the gas will go to one side of the tank therefore not able to be pumped into the engine....

you can tell exactly how much you had left by how many gallons did the car take when you filled it up and how many gallons is your tank. The difference will be what you had left

You have only used up a little over 15 gallons everytime the light lights up and it says 0 miles. So no problem at all finding a gas station as you always have 3 gallons left. Good safety feature. You don't want the light lighting up just when you are going to stop from lack of fuel. :o

I'm not about to drive till it stops from no gas but I've driven some miles after it starts flashing so yes there is over 18 gallon capacity. Don't believe the manual?

i believe there are 2 reasons why the light comes on when we still have 3 gallons left. first reason is for safety (like someone mentioned before). the second reason is because of sediments in ur gas tank. the sediments will settle to the bottom and if u get low enough ur fuel pump will begin sucking the sediments up and pumping them through ur fuel lines. ur filters will probably catch these but that just means u clog up ur fuel filters faster. a little bit might even sneak past the filters. so thats why i never pump gas when the big gas trucks r filling up the gastanks at the station. when they do that they kick up ALL the sediment that has been building up in those big underground tanks. just a tip for u guys 8)

If you continue to fill after the pump auto shutoff, you can get 2 more gallons in. I think the twist of the fill pipe makes the gas backup in the pipe when you're nearly full. That makes the pump shut off early.
