looking for a good body shop in DFW area?

looking for a good body shop in DFW area?

Postby mushka » Thu Feb 17, 2005 11:58 am

hello all,

i couldn't decide the best location to post this, so if this is not the correct category, would the mods please move it?

i recently had a small car accident :(
i need to find a good body shop, close to either Arlington or the Frisco/Plano area in TX
my front bumper is scraped/bent, my left headlight has a small scratch and a crack in the plastic casing on the inside (sorry for my lack of technical knowledge), and the tip of my left fender is bent
i would appreciate any suggestions/body shop recommendations

I'm not sure Ft. Worth is very likely for me as I live in Plano and it will already be a lot of trouble to get to arlington where I work while the car is in the shop

I'll get pictures later

How much I'm willing to spend is in the air for now
the accident was my fault  and we're looking into paying out of pocket to avoid our insurance tripling. the car i hit was a 2001 galant and all the damage was only to the rear bumper - they said they'd get back to us. if it's just the repair, we should be okay paying out of pocket, and i would want minimal cost in repairing my car. the 2 estimates i've gotten so far are around $1300
if they decide to claim injury (which there was probably none of), then we need to let the insurance handle it and i wouldn't care about going to the most expensive place. . .

another question: since i have to replace the bumper cover anyway, are there maybe any aftermarket ones i ougt too consider? i don't really want to go too flashy and not much more expensive than the original version.

Hmm well the guy I know, thats about the same price he will ask for labor, paint, and metal work with all the lights and stuff. And your telling me something about your Air Bag light issue? I could get that done too. The way The guy I know would do it is just replace everyting and new paint on it. Cheapest way and fastest. But hmm get the pictures and I got some friends up in arlinton too that I can try find again and call up for you. You can get allot more help too by posting this on Dallasimports.net in the Import Performance Tech forum. Keep me updated.

wow, thanks for all the great information
i'm working late tonight, but hopefully, i can take some pictures this evening
my guess is that the work is not that complicated. . .like you said, just replacing and painting, and probably bending the fender that's mishaped

you must have read about the airbag issues in an old message of mine
i took my car back to the dealership so many times for so long that the lemon law eventually kicked in and they ordered me a new car around november 2003 - no problems since then except the slightly lagging acceleration some people here have mentioned

the funny thing is that they finally figured out what was wrong after replacing the wiring harness, sensors, and seats: the position i moved my seat up to crimped a wire under the seat - this is why they would think they fixed it and the problem would reappear as soon as i picked the car up

Haha so you wont need the fix the Air Bag? when the bags go off you have to replace the area sensors and reset it. If one sensor goes off, you would replace that sensor and every belt locks ETC in the car to advoid false ignition of the new bags. But yeah hehe goodluck and its cool to see another solara around this area.

airbags did not go off - it was not that hard of a hit

went to herb's on saturday morning
they gave by far the highest estimate so far and were very unfriendly

at the first place i went to, the guy explained all the possible damage he thought was there and even took me to a computer and showed pictures of internal items that may or may not be broken as a warning
i tried to ask the same from other places
is that asking too much?
